The Nabokov Russian Translation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland

Highly recommended--for the target audience
While this is an early work by Nabokov, I would tremble at the thought of rating his writing as anything but "great". He is one of the few writers I know of who was a grand master at writing English and Russian. The introduction explains one word play that had me a bit confused. I suspect there are more that the editor either missed, or expected that the reader would catch. It is a little awkward reading the Russian in pre-1917 orthography, but it lends a Victorian feel to the work. Any reader with moderate-high reading skill in Russian (or a great deal of patience) will enjoy this work.

This is great
I really wanted a translation of Alice In Wonderland to practice reading Russian and I think I found the right book. The things I've read about this translation have been very positive and I know that Nabokov had a great attention to language, so I am looking forward to the day I can read this and understand it.

Old Russian
My Russian wife says that the writing is a very old form of Russian and was not the book she read as a child. Could still make for a great gift though!

Wonderful as Wonderland!
This is an excellent book for everyone who loves Russian language or culture. This is actually written in archaic spelling so you can aprecciate Nabokov's translation at a 100%.
