Cheaper than DIY!
I initially considered crafting my own barn door, but after evaluating the costs of materials alone (excluding my time) the precut barn door kit emerged as the better option. The assembly process was surprisingly swift, taking 15-20 minutes to complete. The door's design features intuitive notches that ensure the pieces interlock seamlessly, secured firmly with screws. The central panels, also notched, slide in effortlessly without leaving any gaps, although ensuring good alignment and squareness helps with this.To conceal the screw holes, the kit includes pegs, and for those who prefer, decorative overlays can be added towards the end using the provided screws. One crucial tip: the door's bottom is pre-cut to accommodate a track guide, so it's important to position it on bottom during assembly. Keep in mind, the hardware for hanging the door is sold separately, necessitating drilling for the barn door rollers. My sole concern is the center panel's material, which is somewhat thinner and less resilient. You can feel it flex when you push on the door. It does its job but I could see kids rough housing and breaking the center section.

I am impressed
This door was very easy to assemble. The material is good quality. That parts fit well and went together nice and square. It took about 30 minutes to build. I will definitely get more of these.

Nice doors.
This was easy to put together. They look good and work fine. I missed where it said you had to put them together.

Make sure you adjust
These doors are unbelievable how great they are for the price. We took a few hours because we read all instructions and made sure we adjusted so nothing was sticking out before putting the long screws in. Also note that the smaller slats do have a left and right also so make sure to read what is bottom and what is top and what goes to the left and to the right. We’re still deciding on the diagonal piece and how we want it. The only complaint I have is that a piece was broken from shipping but we managed to put in the side you don’t see.

Please read my entire review...I gave these a 5 but.....
I bought 3 of these. 2)36" and 1) 42". Had I only purchased the 2)36's I would be telling you this was the EASIEST "Assembly required" item I had ever done. They are well cut and extremely easy to assemble. But the 42" gave me a lot of grief. There seemed to be a little humidity that caused a SMALL amount of warping. But that made assembly much more difficult. I was lucky that I own some cheap, but long, clamps (Harbor Freight $20) And that made all the difference. I assembled the two 36 in first..Super easy. But I might have sent the entire batch back if I had reversed the order, based on the 42 in. I saved about $600 on premade doors, so it was worth the trouble. You dont need to be "Mr Handy" to assemble them. But a little skill with a hammer drill is a good thing. One final thought... The 36 in doors are 36x80. The other is 42x 84!!!! 4 inches taller! Something I didnt realize until I was done assembling and stood it up. All 3 of these go on the same wall. I am not sure how I will make it look correct with a 4 inch difference. So beware if you are mixing and matching.

Reduced height to 78 inches
This is a very nice door and easy to put together for the full 80 inch height. I had to shorten it however to 78 inches. My wife cut all the center boards by 1 inch and the 2 side boards by 2 inches. I had to lengthen the side board middle slots by 1 inch and the top slots by 2 inches. It would have been easier if the middle and top slots were already longer, but it worked out anyway. I’ll be hanging this from a rail attached to a 82 inch high ceiling. My first thought was a custom made door. This 80 inch door was close enough to what I needed that I thought I’d take a chance. The answers to comments said it couldn’t be cut down but that depends on how determined you are.

Looks good but subpar quality.
We were looking for a barn door at the big box stores, then decided to check here on Amazon. Well we found this door and, better yet, it came with all the hardware. I was actually surprised by the quality of the hardware; I expected cheap screws, nuts and bolts but some of the hardware is even grade 10.9! And the black color really makes them look good (although easy to scratch with a wrench or socket if not careful). As soon as I started to put the door pieces together I realized why the box stores sell their doors for so much more. Some of the pieces were splintered in a way that isn’t obvious just by looking at them, but when putting it together your hands will know.Next, the thick pieces of wood that make the frame of the door come pre-drilled so all you have to do is put the screws in. Fine for someone who isn’t familiar with a drill but leaves zero margin for adjusting for any “mishaps” the workers might have had when drilling the holes. In a perfect world, the door frame would be put together and the pieces drilled together so that the holes all line up. In my case, because the holes didn’t line up perfectly, one of the sides was slightly higher. Not, too terrible so I decided to keep going. Well, not only did the holes not quite line up, but one side was also drilled at an angle, causing the long piece of the frame to not be flat with the rest of the door... in other words it looks as if the door is warped or twisted. It wasn’t very apparent when I was putting it together and staining the wood (so no returns here!), but after hanging it on the track on the wall it clearly is much closer to the wall on one side vs the other. I tried loosening the screws and “twisting it back” but it didn’t help much, if at all. I would probably try to build my own next time.
