While other kits teach you how to build a thing (or in the case of the Creator series, a few things), this tells you how to build NINE different models -- three beasts, three airships and three land vehicles -- but it doesn't leave you on your own after that. The books describe many different techniques so that builders can learn how to design really and truly good models on their own.Not only did my 9-year-old son have a lot of fun building all the original models with this kit, spending more time with it than he had even with thousand-piece TECHNIC kits, his own designs have since improved dramatically. He now is using pieces in ways I never dreamed of doing to make his own models in different ways.The books don't just provide advice about technique, they also provide advice about design, about using the pieces and colors available to enhance a design, so that a boxy house or car becomes something artfully done.If your child is advanced to the point where this kit is in his or her abilities, this is one of the best values in the entire LEGO lineup. I can't recommend it enough.
