Based on these reviews, I expected much more
Let's just get this out in the open right away, ok? Particle board furniture is GARBAGE, ok? There. Glad that's out now. Whoever decided that furniture should be made of sawdust all pressed together and mixed with glue needs to have their face slapped repeatedly daily from here into eternity. I ordered this after reading these glowing reviews and after receiving this thing and putting it together I was firmly underwhelmed.Assembly: If this is the first time you are attempting a furniture assembly, galvanize yourself. This one will leave you crying in a corner sucking your thumb. As a dude, I'm handy. I have good tools. And experience. I went at this thing without an ounce of trepidation. I was flying through the steps, everything was going great. Then came "Step 11" on Page 15 of the manual and everything came to a grinding, particle-board infested halt. The note conveniently printed at the top says "Place the SHELF first and then the BOTTOM in position before tightening the TWIST-LOCK (trademark) FASTENERS. And herein lies the problem. Unless you have help this step is doggone near impossible. Getting those EIGHT pegs to all line up to those eight holes takes an act of Congress and it left me in a profuse sweat and cursing a blue streak the likes of which I haven't heard since I wall mounted a 60" television by myself. I ended up having to remove all eight of the fasteners, putting them in the holes by themselves (without the shelves attached), placing the shelves afterward and hammering the fasteners back into the holes. Major pain in the posterior.Quality: This is where the majority of my disappointment lies. It's flimsy. I don't know how these other reviews think this thing is solid. I can take one hand and shake it and the whole thing wobbles. The fact that everything now has a folding cardboard back that you have to nail in place is one of the biggest downfalls in modern furniture. Is there anything that screams "I'm a cheap piece of flimsy manure" louder than a cardboard accordion acting as the spine of the entire project?? I think not.It does look decent and I did enjoy the random bits of humor sprinkled throughout the assembly manual. That was unexpected. Other than that there is not much else to brag about on this piece.

I L❤️VE THIS FURNITURE
Absolutely love the shelving unit. Bought two different types. But two of the shelving units that had doors below and one of the shelving units that was completely open. They look fabulous together, work hard to put together, and they are absolutely beautiful. The quality of the product is amazing. Well worth the money. I also ordered a dresser and a nightstand. All of this furniture was for my remodeled office. It’s beautiful!

So good, I had to get two!
When I first got this bookcase, I was reluctant because putting it together appeared rather daunting! However, when I opened it up and looked at the directions... Things changed. It was MUCH easier than I was thinking. It took about an hour and a half to put together and once I got it up, it looked SO good! I've got it loaded to the brim and discovered after all of the books I've recently bought, I needed to get another bookcase, so naturally, I got a second one of these!WELL worth the cost and effort to put together! No missing parts, everything looked GREAT! And the way it was packaged helped provide excellent protection for it!Don't have doubts, JUST BUY IT!

HEAVY, and some assebly required.
It's a bookshelf that certainly takes some time to put together, and that's okay, but don't expect this to be as simple as your typical IKEA setup. Still, it's not the most complicated thing to put together if you can follow instructions. However, one comment I must make about this product is just how HEAVY it is. I've already thrown away the box, but I feel like the package stated the weight was ~97 pounds (definitely in the 90-100 lb range). Moving it from my doorstep to my living room and subsequent room wasn't "terrible", but having someone else around to help with the lifting is certainly advisable. This isn't too big a deal when assembling the bookshelf, but it can become a bit hairy when it comes time to stand it up wherever you're placing it, and I also highly recommend using the wall attachment it comes with as this thing falling over with nothing else on it is definitely going to injure somebody. The weight does mean it feels very sturdy, and will last some time, though don't be mislead into thinking this bookshelf is solid wood. Some parts of it are solid wood (the sides that hold the shelves), but the majority of it is compressed woodchips that is supposed to be recycled wood. I like the idea of the recycled wood, but I also greatly love solid wood products, though I didn't want to spend the money for one, so here we are. That's to say, I'm not complaining about the compressed woodchip material of the bookshelf, just letting you know it's something to be aware of.Otherwise, it's a bookshelf that functions great for what I wanted of a bookshelf, and that's to be a place to hold books and other objects I have lying around my place.I hope this helps you out in your purchasing decision.

Phone a friend for help...
I bought this bookshelf without reading the reviews, based only on looks and how many stars I saw.I'm happy with this purchase but have some comments.First of all, when I got home from work and saw it sitting in front of the door. I knew it was heavy. And when I kicked it and it didn't moved a centimeter, I knew I would need help. I also knew that whoever dropped it off probably called me out my name a few times as the box is not marked heavy, nor does it recommend a 2 man lift. Please be careful. In addition, I left the back off for an open bookcase. The back is cardboard while the entire rest of the bookcase is wood. Wood wood, yes.Putting the back on would make this sturdy bookcase even sturdier, however, I didn't want to nail into the finish.Also....the instructions were a nightmare and I had to phone a friend so we could discuss, debate, and rotate. In the end, it looks great, I would by another, but I'm afraid the delivery guy will curse me.

Heavy!
I love the way the 'charred pine' is dark but has a red hue in it too. Looks really good and it's very solid too. I would DEFINITELY buy this again but I would make sure there's someone who can help me carry this. It isn't light!!

Just ok
The back of the unit is cardboard that comes folded and unfortunately because of that, when placing it on the rest of the assembled unit with the supplied nails it keeps the form of the folds, so looks poor with the warped back.

Great product.
This unit is pretty well built by a USA company, I used wood glue as well and the unit is rock solid and sturdy, looks very good and professional
