I thought this book would be interesting—and it was! I thought it was well-organized with step-by-step instructions on various construction estimating projects. You'll learn how estimators work, how to read a blueprint, and how to source materials. Overall I found it very useful and inspiring.

I gave “Construction Project Estimating 101” three stars. It’s alright, but at times it feels like sections were written by an AI like ChatGPT due to its similar format. (im not accusing the author using ai.) but while reading all I could think about was, “damn, I could just asked chatgpt this to get a similar response”. There are a couple of pages that prompt you to leave a review, which felt like my reading was getting interrupted by ads. Fortunately these prompts are at the end of chapters, but they’re still annoying. Could have just added a separate flyer like other Amazon products. The book could be condensed further as there is a lot of filler information. For example, two pages just talked about a mouse. Overall, for $13, it’s okay.

This book is super accessible for someone without a construction background, or even someone who’s interested in real estate, but is looking to immerse themselves in the world of construction. It is even great in that it provides resources that you can access is you’re trying to do your own construction estimating, along with guidance on having an effective workflow while you’re doing it. Estimating with the advent of new construction technologies is discussed as well. Would highly recommend this book!
