Works well, but keep in mind…
I used this for some vertical cave shafts on a recent trip. I felt quite safe with it but the mechanism is very easily clogged by dirt and debris, making a smooth decent rather difficult. I really liked how it locks you in place when you fully squeeze the handle as well as when you let go, it made it very beginner friendly for newcomers and gave a good peace at mind. Sturdy construction, lightweight, simple enough to use, the only downside I found so far is how difficult it can be to maintain a smooth decent, particularly when any sort of dirt or debris are involved, but that’s much preferable over falling.

Well made, make sure you have the right size rope!
It is rated for 10 -13 MM ropes. That boils down to smallest is a 7/16 rope the largest is 1/2 inch rope. I think the action of release and stop will probably be a lont smoother with a half inch rope. The 7/16 rope was kind of all or nothing, and kind of jerky. Also be careful with poly pro or nylon ropes, this can generate quite a bit of heat during a long rappel. For industrial use, like lowering a heavy piece into position, the heat should not be a problem since the distances involved would usually be small. Your rope should be clean and dry, for best results. Never exceed the rated maximum weight of 300 lbs. My intended use for this is raising and lowering a 10 horse outboard motor on and off a sailboat.I like this device and think it is well made, but with anything of this nature, use an abundance of caution, and practice with something that does not matter!

I bought this for our emergency equipment
We have some rocky ledges on our mountain, some with a drop off of almost hundred feet. We are adding this to our emergency equipment that we keep on hand. Our community does not have a local search and rescue but we do have a volunteer fire department. If anyone gets lost wandering on our hundred acres or should fall, now we have a descender to go with our ropes, carabiners, etc. If nobody gets too badly hurt , we can raise them with a body harness and a winch rope.So did I use it? Yes! It was fun! Now the only instructions you get are on the unit itself, pictograph on handle (see photo). I played with it a while until I knew the controls. I just lowered myself down from the barn loft . It went ok but I recommend everyone pra tice a lot first before hand.It is a great price too.

It's for climbing?
Really disappointed and definitely not going to be using it for any serious desents. Its badly made and does not allow for a slow and safe desents.
