Nicely made wooden box.
Cute little box. The lid is held firmly closed, which is nice. I have to use some effort to open it. I think that's much better than a floppy lid.The drawer was reluctant to open the first time, and by that I mean I had to upend the box so that gravity helped it out. In other words, it wasn't difficult. I just had to fiddle with it a bit. I was very pleasantly surprised at how deep the drawer is.The craftsmanship is fine. All the joints and joinings are very smooth , everything lines up honky dory. For the record, I don't give a fig about the puzzle aspect of this box. I just wanted the box.For twenty bucks, the price I paid for it, I think this box is a great deal.

Amazing for the price
I bought 2 different cheap puzzle boxes for X-mas $$ gifts. The difference in workmanship was dramatic. This box is outstanding for the cost. Not really heirloom quality, but not disposable junk as I was expecting. Nice box, well hidden drawer.

I'm actually terrible at puzzles
I'm not a puzzle expert. I'm actually terrible at puzzles. I bought it as a Christmas present. My intent was to hide something inside and frustrate my family. Nothing says Merry Christmas quite like the gift of frustration. The box is beautiful. The brass colored tag is a nice touch. Feels very solid. It does NOT come with a solution. The mechanism is different than any I've ever seen. My kids always play with these before I get to, and they solved it in about an hour. They are 11, 10 and 8. They thought they had it solved, but Dad had to point something out to them...letting them know they still had more work to do. They eventually got it.I liked this one. The compartment is small, maybe big enough to hold two AAA batteries.I thought it was a good buy, especially since I plan to re-gift it. I love how all my kids get excited about something that isn't an iPhone!

Nice little box for a gift!
I really liked the workmanship that went into this little box. Granted, it's pretty simple (not much of a challenge, really), but it's a really nice box to give as a gift, especially if you want to "hide" a little money in the secret compartment, too! The fit & finish were very good for such an inexpensive box, I thought. I actually bought 2 of these (1 for a gift & 1 for me, as well).

Nice box, but...
The craftsmanship is above average for a relatively inexpensive puzzle box. You will not mistake it for "heirloom quality," but compared to some products coming out of India (where this one was made), it is clearly a superior product. The individual pieces of wood fit together nicely, the box has a nice looking finish on it, and it's relatively hefty for a small box. There are, however, two negative features to consider before purchasing.1. The "secret drawer" on my box was stuck. It simply would not slide open. I had to pry it open with a knife. Fifteen minutes with sandpaper and beeswax cured this issue, but to get it open the first time, you risk scratching the wood with a knife.2. This box is advertised as an "enigma puzzle box...a brain teaser." It is not. The solution...the way to get the "secret compartment" open, is so obvious that it really doesn't merit the descriptor "puzzle."So, if you want a nice, inexpensive box to give a gift of money or small jewelry, this product will suffice. If you want a puzzle that'll keep a youngster or friend occupied for more than a minute of two, look for something a little more complex.

do not buy
We have bought many products from bits and pieces and loved them-this did not rise up to their standards. It is a beautiful, simple box with a simple peg opener but the box was constructed with green wood that made the drawer impossible to open and it eventually cracked and I was sad as I wrapped it today as I had no alternative. When it arrived it was marked with permanent marker that I was able to remove and but had to refinish the box. The marked area later cracked, so I know why it was marked. We had to sand and file down the drawer inside the opening slot and the edges of the drawer itself to even get it to move in and out, but when I wrapped it today I found two more cracks in the lid. Good thing we know a bit about woodworking or it would not have worked at all. For such beautiful simplicity it was really sad.

Very pretty!
I gave this to our daughter for Christmas this year. She loved the hidden compartments, and even though the top isn't really hidden I still needed to show her how to open it. The top area is perfect for gift cards and a few other items. The hidden bottom drawer holds folded up money quite nicely. Out of the 8 puzzle boxes I purchased to give this holiday season this one is my favorite.
