With brightness up, the OLED screen on this is as visible as a screen can be in the sun.

The unit comes with the DC cord and needs constant power in order to operate.

Q: Is the firmware upgradable and if so, does it run on Windows only?

the firmware is upgradable, I am not certain if we have an upgrade out for that model yet (it is very new) but you can use windows and mac to update.

Q: If I power the device off and leave it plugged in does it drain my car's battery?

No it will not drain your car battery.
