Since its foundation in 1930, CITIZEN has promoted a multi-cultural mindset that fosters excellence and creativity. The very name of the brand conveys a deep respect toward craftsmanship and considered as familiar by citizens the world-over. So as a “citizen” of the world, we bear the responsibility to help cultivate a culture of positive change and on-going evolution through our craft. We take that mission seriously and steadfastly welcome what the future may bring. As a true manufacture d’horlogerie, CITIZEN integrates a comprehensive manufacturing process from creating individual components to a watch’s final assembly. It’s an artisan’s approach to watch making based on pushing forward the boundaries of technology and leveraging our experience toward exploring new possibilities. One pivotal technological breakthrough was the development of a light-driven watch. CITIZEN pioneered this engineering innovation well ahead of other watch manufacturers as early as 1976, which led to the launch of the highly acclaimed Eco-Drive in 1995. Utilizing electrical power converted from virtually any light source, this extraordinary innovation changed forever the way watches could be powered. Eco-Drive eliminated the need to ever replace batteries, which made it especially beneficial to areas where such specialist batteries were not obtainable. This leveled the field for citizens of virtually every country to be able to experience unrestricted joy of wearing and using a CITIZEN watch. The product development policy, “The Fusion of Technology and Beauty,” remains a constant motivation for us to merge cutting-edge technology with perfection of design beauty, which as a consequence inspires people to strive to be their best at any time. CITIZEN launches a new campaign in collaboration with Wieden+Kennedy, Better Starts Now. This is the simple belief that no matter who you are or what you do, it is always possible to make something better — and now is the time to start doing it. We believe that better and now are both infinite, and that there is always a next ‘better’ and a new ‘now’ in which you can start pursuing it. It was clear from the onset of this project that we are dedicated to this ideal…not to the past but to the present, and all the way we can improve it. To help communicate this belief to the world we have created a new global CITIZEN brand movie, brand identity and brand website that represents out Better Starts Now philosophy. See more

An elegant timepiece that goes casual and in the office
All in all I am very happy with this elegant timepiece.! This really is a beautiful wathc. I'm hooked on atomic-solar and have owned several Casio G-Shock's and If you've had one of those, you know how complicated a multifunction watch can be to set and use.PROS:*It came with a mini-CD that walks you through the initial setup up - really easy, really cool!*Titanium - quite light. I don't know how much the steel one weighs, but this is a big, thick watch, I think it's worth the extra $150.*Easy to read Analog, back-light for digital displays in the dark*Very easy to cycle through the time zones - there are 43 plus one custom. The really, really nice thing is that you can easily Hide the cities you don't use to make the list really short. unlike the Casio, hands move in both directions very quickly when changing time zones.*Digital display for Two time zones plus UTC on the top dial. You can easily swap the digital time zones by pressing both the set buttons simultaneously - extremely useful for travel*Very easy to cycle through the functions, from Time, Calendar, chronograph, countdown timer, world time and two alarms, plus the atomic receive mode by rotating the crown.*Atomic-solar, of course.*Many more custom features, for instance you can zero the analog hands - I hope they never get misaligned, but if they do, hey.CONS:* Digital displays are tiny, and I expect most buyers will be over 45 and have trouble focusing on them. I Have to use the back-light even in daylight, but I just use the calendar anyway, so it's fine, but if you want to refer to it a lot in the dark, may be a problem.* The hands cover the digital displays as they turn. Real nuisance, because I can't see the displays at an angle, have to wait `til the hands move.* It is big and you'll likely have to remove links - I wear Large size gloves and I still had to remove 3 links.*It is a bit tough to pull out the crown to the first stop, not the second and you really have to take the watch off to do it. Not a problem if you don't set it much, which you shouldn't need to unless you are a pilot.Amazon got it here 2 days early even with Supersaver Shipping.

Fantastic for travel. Unless you really need auto time zone, atomic much better than GPS
Love this watch. Fairly inexpensive for a dress watch that is atomic and solar and supports three simultaneous time zones.A must-have for anyone crossing time zones frequently. Just pull out the crown and push the top and bottom simultaneously. The watch will automatically switch your home and travel time zones. There's a separate dial that indicated UTC. This is particularly handy if you're travelling internationally.Well made and solid design and aesthetics, not one of those functional but funky plastic Casio Pathfinders (which I also have but simply can't wear to work). Looks every bit as class up front as it does in pics.I should note that, obviously, this watch does not automatically set the time zone; you have to set that manually, which is easy to do. I also have a GPS-based solar watch (Seiko Astron) that syncs by GPS in order to automatically set the time zone. (Obviously, an atomic watch does not do this; it simply syncs to the correct minute and second.) By far, this atomic watch is much quicker with the sync. It picks up atomic clock signals in the remotest areas, unlike my GPS-syncing watch that requires you to stand in an open space outdoors, unobstructed by buildings or windows, sometimes for up to 5 minutes! GPS-based syncing also requires a lot more out of battery life.Very functional watch, has count-down timer, stopwatch, alarm, and atomic clock sync. Only thing is I haven't figured out how to use the slide rule function, which, I suspect, is more of a design feature than a functional one.And you never have to worry about replacing batteries or winding the thing! One downside is that it can take quite a while to charge if you store it for an extended period of time in a (dark) drawer or cabinet. I just leave on my dresser top, and the thing stays charged.Cheap enough to travel with. But classy enough and good-looking enough to wear as an everyday watch to work.

Great watch has performed flawlessly all over the world for five years.
I purchased this watch about five years ago or so. It was a replacement for a $200 Pulsar watch that I had worn daily for 20 years but finally gave up the ghost. As that may tell you I only wear one watch at a time because I get them for the timekeeping and not for the jewelry aspect. This watch is a good bit bigger than the vintage watch -- styles change so it took a day or two to get used to the bigger size. Now the old one looks small. Since I like to keep a watch basically forever I spent three days on every web site I could find checking out every watch I could find. My old watch had a blue face which I thought was unique and this also has a blue face which appealed to me. The radio update from the atomic clock and the Eco-Drive appealed to the techie in me. I purchased this watch (which is fairly expensive) and have been wearing it every day for about five years.I have never regretted it. I travel all over the world and this watch has a time zone (easy to set) for just about everywhere including Iraq and Afghanistan (KBL). Doing work for the military makes the UTC dial come in really handy. When going home it is so easy to hold both buttons down at the same time to switch from the travel time zone to the home time zone. The glow in the dark numbers and hands glow for many hours at night when you are out in the pitch black. Much longer than any other watch I've ever had. Lights out at 2100 and at 0400 it is no problem to tell the time in the dark. And you never have to buy a battery!Plus it has the added attraction of looking great. I would highly recommend this watch to anyone.

The watch itself is beautiful, and has all the functions (plus many more) that you could ever want or use. With that said, this was an impulse buy. I wouldn't spend this much on a watch ever again, but I am happy I did since I get compliments on it all the time.

Great watch, updated review
Update:As I indicated in my first review, I had sent back the watch to Amazon for refound, and I received the money...fine Amazon! In the meantime I purhased the same watch again (different source) and my assumption became confirmed: my first watch was pre-used and most probably the reason why it was sent back previously: it was even defective!!!...bad Amazon! The new watch syncronises perfectly everywhere (in Canada I tried in Toronto and Bruce areas, in Europe in Austria, Hungary and Germany), no problem at all!!! All my other comments are still valid. The watch is with it's 15 mm slightly too thick. I hit it few times because of this into cupboards, doors, and the bezel got some slight damages / scratches (glas still undamaged). All in all I like it very much, my favourite for travelling!4 stars only because of Amazon shipping out reurned items without checking whether they are defective / weared or not!!!Old review:The watch itself is still one of my favourites because of it's look, but I may need to buy it somewhere else...New watch old watch:I've been a satisfied Amazon (EU, US) customer for long time. This was here (Amazon Canada) my second purchase and my first big disappointment. The watch came in a disastrously looking Citizen outer box (dirty like signs of some scratched-off food rests or glue, was torn on all sides may be due to several forced openings, was looking old, etc.).The watch itself was without any usual protecting plastic foil (contrary to how it was with my recently purchased Seiko from Amazon.co.uk), and was scratched on several places (crown, band - clearly visible). Apparently a piece used as a display in a shop or a return item from one (or more) customers? Definitely not a brand new watch!!! So - as sad as it is - I had to send it back...There are some good descriptions about this watch in reviews on Amazon.com, therfore just some issues which should be known probablly additionally:Color:The watch is in the reality deep blue and not the (dark grey or light blue) color what you can see on most of old or new photos on the net or even on the Citizen homepage.Radio control:I've tried several of these watches in different shops in the big Toronto area and also the one I got where I stayed, but none of them ever showed a signal to be received (was showing NO reception). The manual-mode setting didn't help either. I was told everywhere that it should work, but even following the user manual (also available on the Citizen-site), directing the built in antenna to the window - I tried several windows in all directions, even I tried to locate the US transmitter in Fort Collins with GPS and direct the watch to that direction, I stayed up night for better reception - nothing helped. So I'm not sure whether this watch can syncronize in Canada at all...You may have a better chance in the US or in Europe...??Digital display:The digital display on this model (and on all present skyhawks what I checked again on several watches in several shops) just can be read from a flat angle looking at it on your wrist. Starting 90 degree or above you see nothing! Therefore you can see photos on the internet, where the display seems to be blank! The segments on the display are not with a nice resolution so sometimes it is difficult to read, and some text is too small (you need your strongest reading glasses) or not complete (OF instead of OFF, etc.)Fluorescent hands:Can be seen for some time after switching the light off, but not very well if you don't put it into a strong light before, and not for the whole night (no improvement to my old citizen).Alarm:As described in some reviews already the alarm sound is so silent that you can sleep piecefully without getting disturbed, therfore useless as a wake-up alarm. I posess an older Promaster Citizen model too with the same alarm loudness, I left sometimes on my wrist overnight to wake up, and I just succeeded if my ear was by chance laying above my wrist so I stopped to use it for that purpose.Analog displays:They are quite small and depending on the time (position of hands) you cannot read them at all.Calendar:You can just have the calendar matched to the world time (can be confusing), so if you are at home you better set both times to the same location!!!Size and weight:The watch is big and (not so) heavy (118g comparing to the ~200g normal steel version)Scratch poveness:As the delivered sample showed to me the watch gets scratched probably easily (I didn't try myself but from the available scratches I have to assume...). The watch has also the same mineral glass as my old Promaster, and that has many ugly scratches on the glass, so I have to assume that it won't be better with this one. I think Citizen has realized this too, because the new Europian versions of this watch have saphire glass instead!Emotional factor:Despite of all issues before, I still like the Blue Angels design!!!
