Yokai: Strange Beasts & Weird Spectres: 100 Japanese Triptychs (Ukiyo-e Master Series) Paperback – October 31, 2018

I️ got this book as a visual reference for all the wild and wonderful yokai found in Japanese folklore. As an artist, this was meant to be a resource for generating ideas for work of my own. The artworks in this book are all Triptychs (3 panel paintings), which is really cool. But as I️ flipped through the book, it seems like yokai, while present, are not always the main subject of these triptychs as I️ was expecting. They are often in the background, or small, or partially covered, or sometimes, all three. This is not always the case, but it is pretty common throughout, which was a bit disappointing. I️ wouldn’t say that I️ regret buying this book, as there is still some great art and reference material in it that will be useful - it just didn’t quite fulfill what I️ was hoping/expecting.

Pretty cool book. I bought it to get some tattoo ideas. It’s a quality publication and based plenty in lore and history.

So I design a lot of ocs based off yokai so I tend to turn to books like these for inspiration and well. The art is amazing vibrant and colorful I love look at it though haven't had much time to do so recently. Def was worth the price hot a used copy but you'd probably never known unless someone told you.

I mainly bought it for the pictures, and it doesnt disappoint. Its a large book, with thick quality paper. Excellent large diagrams and commentary as well. Well worth it if you love this kind of thing.
