It's a gate
I ordered two of these gates, let me start with the good.I bought one to keep cats from going down into the basement. I installed the gate on one of the stairs so the cats see that jumping over it would present a problem. It's worked great, the cats don't jump over it, it looks nice, and its opening is wide enough that it doesn't get in the way when I up and down the stairs. So the positives --Large opening-Looks nice-Easy to setupNow the bad thing. After the success I had with the first gate, I bought a second gate to go up in front of the bedroom door. Our cats claw at the door when its closed, so again, this gate was setup as a cat deterrent. And to that end it has worked well. The problem is that the quality of this second gate was somehow off when compared to the first gate I bought. The endcaps that you place either the extensions or your caps that contain the "legs" that secure it to the door frame were stuck in the gate, I practically tore one of them to pieces in getting it out. Then getting the poles inserted into the slots for the extensions was a nightmare. They didn't fit correctly. Thankfully I had enough pieces from the first gate that through mixing and matching, I eventually got this second gate put together. If I didn't have the left over bits from the first gate, I would have returned the second gate though. So the negative --There seems to be some differences in quality from one gate to another-Pieces don't always fit together as easily as they should-On the second gate, the door feels more flimsy that the one on the first gate I orderedOverall I recommend this gate if you are in need of a gate. It looks classy (As far as gates are concerned), its made of wood and painted steel so it doesn't really feel out of place and cheap like other gates. Just be aware that you could get a bum gate and may need to exchange it before you get one where all the pieces fit correctly.

Good looking but needed some mods for my use.
I think I received a returned item. Still, I like the gate and I've been using it for 6 months. I purchased this mainly for looks and not much of the features (1 - it works as a baby gate 2 - you have to push in and down a button to open the gate 3 - its held by tension). This gate is installed between 2 stairway banister posts. I contemplated purchasing the stairway banister post adapters but decided to make my own. I purchased 8' cedar 1.5"x1" strip at my nearby Menards. Cut it to length and stained to match my posts. I cut it so that it would come level with the bottom of the ball at the top of the post. Next, I screwed the tension feet cups to the wood strips (this is important for the top as the banister post does not provide a tension point near the top) and did the same for the bottom (for uniformity). Next, I secured the gate between the banister and wood strips. Using conduit c-clamps that was screwed to the wood strips and secured to the banister with zip ties. I used black zips to blend but its still noticeable. It's a trade-off between secure and non-damaging to the home vs. looks (remember, I have 3 kids and they make a daily mess of the house).I made sure that the tension was tight and the gate was secure to my satisfaction. I was surprised that the gate opened very easily and after a short while (instructions were not in the box) I figured that the top of the gate had to be expanded (i.e. more tension) to close the gap across the top of the gate and frame. Later I found out this was by design and not a defect of the item I received. Now its works great as a stairway gate.

Nice looking secure gate
Very nice looking gate. It did take me longer to put it together (extensions) and up than other gates I've used in the past, but not bad enough to be annoying. I have two of them installed at the top/bottom of our staircase - one attached via pressure mount to wooden banisters and the other to a wood banister and wall. The one opening is 41" and this still fits just fine, despite saying it only fits up to 40.5". I do wish the screws came put a little higher on the gate itself, because it took some rigging to get the gate positioned and installed to clear the small round moulding along the edge of our wall - doable, but it would have been a lot easier and more convenient if the screws cleared the base by a bit more. I do kind of hate the bar you have to step over, especially since we're using it in a staircase - the fact that it's dark makes it blend in to the steps and makes it easy to forget to avoid it (my husband already tripped over it and fell at the bottom step)... I think that is just a reality with a pressure mounted gate, though; not interested in screwing something I to our unpainted wooden banister, though. The latch seems secure - my 3 y/o can maneuver our old gates, but she can't get this one open (yet). The wood is almost like a cherry stain, too. Overall, it's a nice gate - our Realtor and several contractors all stopped to comment on how it is far nicer looking than other gates they've seen.

Attractive and great for our needs
We got this gate for our window to keep our dog in the house while having an open window. With a baby gate we don't have to worry about her bolting through the screen. The Munchkin wood designer gate came almost totally assembled, there were a few pieces to screw in but my son put in the window in about 10 minutes after reading the directions. Part of the time was I wanted it reversed so the writing at the bottom would face out of the living room. The easy open gate works well, we can open it for ease of getting the window up and down. The bars might be mistaken for burglar bars by someone casually scoping the house, which would be a good thing. The bars are set wide enough apart not to seem crowded, giving it an almost art deco look, but close enough together a baby, or a schnauzer, would be unable to get through. Once installed the gate doesn't jiggle but stays firmly in place. We had one of those ugly putty colored ones in and this is so attractive we are going to buy a second one for other window. Highly recommended for looks, sturdiness, and quality.*edited to add, we did in fact buy a second gate and put it in our second window. We are very happy with these gates.
