Honest review from a middle of the road tech guy....
OK, so I spent a lot of time looking through the reviews on this particular unit, and I saw a wide variety of comments, from good to bad to downright ugly. As a longtime Amazon user, I know that most people who are satisfied with their purchase fail to write reviews, and with an electronics fail rate at 5%, some bad reviews are expected.Let me start by saying that if you're not just a little tech savvy, move along to the ROKU. As an Android owner, I came into this with a little experience, which made it a lot easier. Out of the box, I plugged into the HDMI slot of my 60" DLP HD Mitsubishi and it didn't work. I was pretty upset, had power and the blue light, but no picture. Just to make sure, I went into the bedroom and tried plugging it into the flat screen and it worked fine. It would start and the reboot. I saw this in one of the reviews and thought, "oh crap". What I came to realize is that the operating system was doing updates and then restarting itself automatically. It did this about 4 or 5 times and then operated just fine. The wireless is a little shaky sometimes but I have this unit on the other side of the house from the router, and my phone/tablet/laptop gives me the same issue. Surfing the net, YouTube, Hulu, and all other apps I've downloaded have worked like a charm, outside of a little buffering issue when multiple users are on the network, but again, the same with any PC or wireless device in the house, so base those concerns on the strength of your internet and wireless network. This processor is fast! Faster that any other Android I own. As for the first TV, I think it was an older technology/compatibility issue. The Mitsubishi is around 5 or 6 years old where as the flat screen is newer technology. I suggest buying an extended cable with it as the one that comes with it is a little short for plugging right into the rear of the TV. Also remember that the cable needs to be female to male.Well, that's about it, hope this review helps you out with a little information to make the purchase less stressful. I will tell you this... we canceled our satellite if that let's you know how well it works. The only reason it got 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the slight learning curve required. I wouldn't buy this for my Dad or a grandparent...a little too much prior knowledge required.

This thing is absolutely amazing! I purchased the 2GB RAM
This thing is absolutely amazing! I purchased the 2GB RAM, 8GB storage model and I'm glad that I did, because I'm now considering complete replacement of my HTPC with this device. Streams 1080 HD video without any issues. Wireless performance is very good - I'm getting half "bars" from 35 feet away from the router which is on a different floor, and still streams very well. Measured power consumption at 2 watts ON and 3 watts full HD streaming. Netflix works perfect out-of-the-box as well as XBMC. I'll likely install tvheadend to utilize my OTA antenna for live tv with my HD Homerun and run XBMC as my frontend. I have no doubts this device will run it perfectly.

This thing is awsome
I work some nights, so at time it is great to turn the tv in the call room in a streaming device. If you load the a custom rom, it work great it is the same as MK908VIII rom are compatible if you use the one for the new antenna. 1080p is still an issue for most roms, but perfectly usable at 720p with Netflix, Hulu Plus, Plex, but not amazon prime (there is not app). You can side load flash, which can help. No crashes and works great with play store.

Worked perfectly
Quad Core is Fast, Quick to Boot, I bought a cheap wireless keyboard and mouse and they worked seamlessly. This is a really cool media hub. MUCH better than Chromecast. Had no issues with it whatsoever. Used it in our Company Display at a large show we were at and it served as a media hub, email server and the occasional internet access point - all through one of our 50" LED TV's! Nice! I used our Booth WiFi for Internet Access althoug it also worked well through my IPhone 5 Hotspot (LTE). One note: This unit pulls more power than a USB Port can supply when you have it set to higher resolutions so I had to use the provided 110VAC Wall Plug to keep it stable.

Great product for price
Overall I like this product (yes I had a few duds) but I've purchased many of these. I use them for Digital menu boards and they do the job. Just make sure you update to the latest OS

smarter tv adapter
works great with my HDTV.netflix, web browsing, email, flash video, etc.requires 2 amp power supply, wasn't sure of my TV's usb output,so i used the included 110 v adapter and just leave the device on.no heat issues .Bluetooth works good with remote keyboard/touch pad.i used a full size usb mouse in to set it up.the rk3188 chip set ,2 gb ram and the 8gb on board supply plenty of speed, but i added an 8 gb micro sd card for a little more storage"can go up to 32 gb ".it is an android without touch screen ability but you get use to it.

Wrong Device
I received the device in a speedy fashion, however upon review of the hardware via system spec viewer, It was not the device I ordered. It only is only a dual core processor, w/ 1GB of RAM, and only ~4GB of storage space. I would highly recommend paying a little more for a more trusted supplier.I also made ABSOLUTELY sure after reading other reviews, that I selected the proper device from the options... albeit to no avail.

Low-cost PC replacement for Web-based Digital Signage
Am using it as a way to display a web-generated facility-use kiosk for PlanningCenterOnline.com. It has worked perfectly since Nov. 2, 2015 for this purpose running 24x7 and is a very low-cost replacement for a dedicated PC. [Update: occasionally have to restart the network connection, but otherwise has worked for more than 3 years]
