Quality and reliability
Toshiba brand has been always known for its reliability and quality. It doesn't matter the final assignment of the product - surveillance, gaming or high-performance systems. I have bought already 3 items from Toshiba. Previously I had 2 Sony VAIO laptops with originally installed Toshiba Hard drives. I recommend Toshiba to those people who intend to buy something with quality.

Works perfectly in my NAS
I loved this drive. It seamlessly integrated with my NAS drive and was up and running in less than a day. 7200 rpm speed also makes a difference in terms of read and write access. I plan to gradually replace the older drives in my NAS with this one moving forward.

Works great as a storage drive for surveillance clips & captures.
I use the drive to store captured video from my surveillance cameras using Blue Iris. Can store many months worth of motion activated recordings with this huge capacity drive.

Toshiba 8TB Surveillance 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
This 8TB hard drive is being used to store surveillance videos along with other videos that are so large they quickly consume all available disk space. It arrived unformatted, and I installed it in a Windows server and then formatted it as an NTFS volume. Then I copied all local videos files onto the disk. Then it occurred to me it would be more useful for my purposes if it were portable. So, I removed it from the server and installed it in a USB 3.0 external enclosure. Then I attached it in turn to each computer on my network and moved all the resident video files on those machines onto the 8TB drive.Even though the USB interface is not as fast as the server’s SATA connection the speed of the drive still made copying much quicker than it would be copying those large files on the network. These files ranged in size from less than a MB to over 10 GB. And after all the videos were on the new drive I attached it to the server using USB 3.0 and shared it so all devices on the network could store and view videos. To check functionality I connected a laptop to a television and viewed a sampling of all types of the stored videos and they played smoothly with no dropouts or buffering. So now all my videos are in one place so they are easy to find and view from any device on my network. Excellent solution for storage and organization of large video files.

Purchased used HDD with an unknown problem - Good deal at price paid
UPdate: Added pictures of tiewrap holding power connector to HDD.It was a returned or damaed item with many clusters shown as bad. Actually just about the entire drive was show bad by old deleted files that I recovered so that I would not be blindsided by whatever the problem was. I thank the technician that did NOT zero out drive and just deleted the bad cluster files - that information gave me a great starting point to diagnose the root cause. I have seen this same problem with a few dozen drives becasue I have dealt with thousands of drives since the 80's. When I installed the drive the power cable 'clunked' when attached to the drive. After a basic r/w test I realized that my first assumption of a power issue was correct. When the cable was removed the plastic holder for the wire fingers detached because it was cracked then broken. I used a nylon tie wrap to make certain that the power wire would stay firmly attached. After many hardware tests over a few months the drive still performes perfectly. It no longer has write errors. I purchased the drive knowing that it probably had a hard to diagnose problem (low price) and rate this pruchase as excellent. Becasue the amazon technician did not recognize that a real problem existed with this drive I deducted one star.
