Great,,and historical, reading!
The Wit and Wisdom of Abraham Lincoln: A Book of Quotations (Dover Thrift Editions) "To correct the evils, great and small, which spring from want of sympathy and from positive enmity among strangers, as nations or as individuals, is one of the highest functions of civilization." Easy and Rewarding Read
For what it is, the book is worth the time. The quotes, of course, are all out of context, but that doesn't necessarily make for bad reading. In fact, since many know the facts of Lincoln's life, the context can usually be filled in.It is a kind of lazy book in that regard...and, if it were the only source of Lincoln information, I would condemn the whole enterprise of publishing it. But there's so much about Lincoln out there...that this little book allows one to focus directly upon Lincoln, the man...in his own words. It allows some space for one's own imagination to flourish and wander...rather than digesting yet another author's thesis. In a way, this unvarnished Lincoln, prompts a new kind of wonder.

Great book
At first I was a bit taken aback by the fact that this is just a bunch of direct quotes from Abraham Lincoln, but as I read more and more, I felt like I got a good feel of this larger-than-life man and was ultimately grateful that the words I read were only Mr. Lincoln's. I feel that all irrelevancies were omitted and that the organization of the quotes gave a fairly in-depth look at Lincoln's opinions and beliefs. As someone who often is turned off by boring history and will quit reading anything that I don't deem interesting, I did find it compelling enough to read cover to cover.

The Words of America's Greatest President!!!
Review Written May 3, 2019The Wit and Wisdom of Abraham LincolnThis is a concise collated collection of around 400 quotations from President Abraham Lincoln These thought-provoking and memorable remarks reveal that Lincoln was not only one of the most eloquent of American presidents, but also, that he had considered thoughts about a wide range of issues. The quotations are arranged chronologically within such topics as family and friends, the law, politics and the presidency, story-telling, religion, and morality Because these qoutes are presented out of context with the momentus historical events and presured filled situations during which they were made it is difficult to fully appreciate the full weight, wisdom and of his words. However, most readers will enjoy this look into the thoughts of America's greatest president.

Great Quotes from a Great Person
In these 'complicated' times where people are so unbelievably angry and misguided, blinded by their anger, their lack of self-awareness or desire to accept their own responsibility for their emotional, mental, spiritual and physical condition. So blind that they will jump to hate anyone and everyone instead of or to avoid looking inward, challenging their own self-notion, their perspectives and where they originate within themselves, Lincoln's words read and resonate like a beacon of hope, honesty and true maturity. He sounds like a man who desires to pursue idealism knowing full well it's absolute realization is impossible yet refuses to give up hope and continues to apply himself to that cause. I find a great sense of peace, calm and hope when reading words written by a truly genuine and great man.

Wisdom for the Ages
Profiles in Leadership: From Caesar to Modern Times This book is required reading for anyone who relishes understanding how Lincoln led. He did it, among other things, by telling stories that were filled with wisdom and made a point. He was able to turn an argument around by a few witting words. In each case he made those around him think and left them with a message. His thoughts, sayings and quotes are universal in meaning and value. I recommend this to anyone who collects proverbs and words of wisdom as I do.Emilio Iodice, author of Profiles in Leadership from Caesar to Modern Times, North American Business Press, 2013.

Lincoln, a great human and statesman
An interesting work reveals what a great human and statesman Lincoln was. I feel it's better to read the wit and wisdom series of great men instead of Autobiography. Because I really feel they are talking to us directly. Lincoln's language is quite unique and so is the vocabulary. Clarity and focused in his conviction. Says, he likes the semi colon ; very much and compliments as a Little chap ! Quite interesting. The very famous quote is seen here, You can fool some people all the time but, can't fool all the people all the time! And one more saying, The purposes of Almighty are perfect and must prevail, though we are erring mortals may fail to perceive them in advance. It's great to learn about this great legend who fought against his own countrymen to bring the Law of Rights in favour of slavery and negros and passed it successfully. It's unfortunate that Lincoln had to pay heavy price for this getting assassinated. In fact Obama should be grateful to Lincoln for this wonderful deed of Lincoln. Irving Wallace wrote The Man, a wonderful book based on the negros in the US wherein a black man becomes a President of the US.Lincoln, a must read.
