This book is good stuff! The title says "Advanced," but if you are at an intermediate level, this book can help you advance quickly with clear explanations, a good mix of practice exercises, and a sensible progression from chapter to chapter. It is very user friendly. The chapters offer complete English explanations of grammar concepts, but they are not overwhelming in length or grammar jargon. It took me between thirty minutes and an hour to read each of the fifteen chapters, excluding the exercises. Despite the many grammar-lite "learn fast through immersion" language learning techniques marketed heavily, grammar is key to learning a language quickly as an adult. My own immersion experience in a Spanish speaking country left me speaking and understanding only in a very broken, "just enough" way. I experienced a definite before/after shift in my comprehension and speaking confidence after the first quick pass through the book. I expect to reread the book several times for review. Overall, this is as painless as a grammar book gets!

I'm a Spanish speaker and I bought this book for my boyfriend. I took my time looking trough many books because I wanted to get the best book that would show him not only grammar but that had exercises, vocabulary, reading paragraphs and I found the EASY SPANISH STEP BY STEP which is the first book that covers basic and some intermediate on the last lessons of the book and now that he is about to finish that book I bought him the ADVANCE SPANISH STEP BY STEP. I have seen a really good improvement since the very first time he took the book. Even though he has to think a little, he is able now to say some well structure sentences in Spanish thanks to the first book and I'm sure that once he finish the advance one he will be able to follow a conversation.As a Spanish speaker I would recommend this book because it covers all the essentials and helps you not only to learn how to ask for the bathroom or where a restaurant is but to be able to communicate too.Another book I thought was good is the PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT by Dorothy Richmond however, you would have to buy the basic, intermediate and advance which STEP BY STEP covers exactly the same topics but in two books instead of three.If you want to learn Spanish you would have to be constant and grab the book for couple hours at least 3 times a week. I recommend you to combine the book with some audio CD's. Another thing I think it would help, and it helped me when learning English, was to watch Spanish TV or movies with subtitles.I took my time writing this review so I hope it was of any help to make you decide for a Spanish book.

Great practice

My teen daughter is entering her junior yr and has used Homeschool Connections online archived classes for starting Spanish. Now she is taking Spanish II and III - this book pairs well with those classes and helped her gain confidence in the vocabulary. She said the purchase was worth the money and glad she had the help this book provided.

Just as good as the original for Beginners. This is helping me learn and understand more past tenses, and more complex tenses. I like the way it’s organized. In logical chapters, with questions/exercises, and then answers at the end. Really a great resource. My Spanish tutor likes it, too!

This book is clearly written and easy to understand. The examples and grammar exercises offer excellent illustration and re-enforcement of the text. In short this is a fine textbook for anyone trying to learn Spanish.Unfortunately, little thought was given to converting this text book into an E-book. It seems as if the editors at Amazon satisfied themselves by simply scanning the original text into an E-book. Unlike recreational readers, the readers of textbooks have special needs. Listed below are three issues that will prove troublesome to most students. If Amazon wants to capture a larger share of the textbook market, it must address these items.First, the lack of page numbers makes it difficult for the reader to cite quotations and refer back to previous topics while studying.Second, almost all of the examples are printed in a small font that I found impossible to enlarge. This is a serious problem for those readers who wear glasses or study late at night.Third, as is common in textbooks, the answer key for the exercises is found at the end of the book. Unfortunately, the answers for many of the exercises do not restate the question. They consist of the question number and the answer which is often only one word. The absence page numbers makes it difficult for the reader to refer back to the exercise, see the question, and understand the meaning of the answer.With a little bit of extra work this great book could be even better.

The simple trick of reading/studying this book on two devices at the same time, e.g. on a Kindle reader + iPad, or another tablet, or a computer, solves the problem of jumping from one place to another, e.g. when working on the exercises and looking up the answers.The small print can be made bigger on iPad by the usual two finger gesture, on Kindle reader place the cursor on small text and click the magnifying glass icon.Better yet, have a paper book to write in it and an electronic device to check your answers.It's worth the effort, the skill boost is almost immediate.I went through "Fundamental Spanish" by Barbara Bregstein and it, plus the online edition of the El Pais daily from Madrid, put me on my way to almost fluent reading (with a dictionary) in three months. But speaking is another matter entirely. I don't think it can be learned without a live teacher.

This is a great book for intermediate level speakers wishing to improve their fluency. Lots of exercises and a very good flow to facilitate knowledge retention.I strongly recommend using a verb conjugation book with this book while you study. You will get so much more out of it this way. It was exactly what I was looking for.

Excellent book for strengthening concepts you already know and learning new ones. I had also used the beginner issue. Everything is explained well and in a way that sticks.

El libro es muy útil para aprender español. La única queja es que no esta muy bien indicado para que nivel es. Yo diría B1-C1.

基礎は別で学んだうえで、復習や薄れた記憶の取り戻しにおすすすめ。簡単な英文とスペイン語文を同時におさらいできるので一石二鳥です。伝統的なテキストだと使わなそうな例文も多かったりしますがこちらは使いやすいものばかりで（まだ最後まで終えてませんが）楽しいです。
