VMware Cookbook: A Real-World Guide to Effective VMware Use

This book is great book to read. I noticed there were some figures that were incorrectly printed in several pages. It seems like the whole group of figures were copied from previous chapter.

The book goes through numerous standard configuration and operation sequences in enough detail that you can learn a lot about the inner workings of a VMware. Read this a few times and if you come across something in real life that wasn't covered, you can reset assured that a "Google" is called for.

Use it everday. Not a big fan of the electronic edition of technical books. Flipping through pages and indexes is still faster for Random lookups.

The book is exactly what is says it is. A cookbook. Rather than explaining the inner workings of VMWare it shows how to use it in practice.

This book contained too much command line information. Not really for someone who needs the step by step basics and best practices of setting up VMWare. I was looking for more of the why would I set these options instead of how to do it. Needed more diagrams and screen shots. Did not like the problem/solution format of the book.

This book is not for the beginner or even intermediate VMware administrator. The recipes provide step by step instructions on how to perform various tasks in VMware, but they have little explanation of "when" you should use them. I liken the recipes to giving a child a loaded gun and sending them on their way with only "you pull the trigger to make it work" as instructions. Experts will be rehashing things they may already know.On top of these issues many of the figures and diagrams in the book were incorrect. Many screen shots were repeated in the same section and incorrect screens were shown.Look elsewhere for VMware related information.

I am the lone VMWare DevOp where I work and my employer has limited funds for training so taking any courses is not possible. While I have been responsible for the VMWare environment for the last several years I often have to go search the web when specific issues arise that I have not dealt with. To help with this I was focused on getting two books to improve my knowledge in this area.I know Matthew Helmke from the Ubuntu Community and his name being on this title helped me make the decision to purchase as I enjoy his writing style and trust books he is associated with. I have not finished the book cover to cover yet, but after discovering simple things like 'esxtop' I expect it to pay dividends in the future. I also plan on taking a look at the web client since I run Ubuntu at work and currently have to use a Windows Virtual Machine to run the vSphere client.

If your doing VM then you need this book, it has solved so major problems and guilded me in the right direction.So worth the money.
