Fantastic--packed with helpful information
This book is exactly what I wanted. It is helpful is explaining how a dog is put together--the relationship of the parts of his body. It discusses paper and pencils. It shows several techniques for drawing dog hair and the differences between the coats of different dogs. This author/artist really seems to want the reader of his book to be able to render a satisfactory likeness of a dog. And when I use the word "satisfactory", I mean a drawing that is good enough to please the artist himself. It is thoughtful, touches on so many aspects that you won't be able to absorb it in one session. (No, this is not the mother of Nolon Stacey--this is a Sunday artist who learned to draw horses from a Walter Foster book sixty years ago but can't draw a decent dog.) I don't think it is too hard for someone with little experience in drawing if they are serious about wanting to draw dogs.

A very basic book
This book is helpful to beginners I'm sure but it is very limited in information. It does however teach you some things about how to draw dogs

Very nice step by step illustrations
A very good instructional book but I would not recommend it for a beginner because it doesn't give the basics on the actual shapes that are helpful to start to draw the animal. There was a section on drawing from a photograph which I was more interested in learning but there are also books out there by other artists that instruct using a grid to begin that I've found more helpful. Also, the section on introducing backgrounds into your picture were very helpful. I would definitely recommend this for the more advanced artists. Very helpful book to add to your drawing library.

I use this book myself for ideas and practice. My nine year old grandson wanted a copy but it's beyond his talents so far. Once he has mastered some of the basics from How to Draw Dogs (Dover How to Draw series) he may be ready to move on to some of the exercises in this book.

Easy to follow instructions
I got quite a lot from this book. It is well thought out, and showed that the artist knows what she's talking about. For beginners there would need to be a bit more on the basics for me to give it five stars, but overall it's very useful.

Great little reference book
Great book. Gives a lot of helpful tips. I bought it specifically to practice and gain more knowledge in negative space drawing and drawing hair which are mostly my weak points. It covers each stage of the drawing process. I wouldnt say it will take you from beginner level, you would need some form if artistic ability but if like me you're used to drawing other things like landscapes and you want to broaden your skillset this book will probably be for you

Drawing dogs in easy steps!
I'd had trouble drawing dogs before I got this book. They would always look out of proportion and look expression-less as well. I tried first with the collie and the sheep in the background. You need to have a ton of patience, but the author takes you through the whole thing in easy steps. You just have to figure out what direction the fur is going and follow that with your pencils. I'd recommend this to any artist who is in the intermediate stages. It might be too much for a total beginner, but this stage is also welocme- you just need patience, as I typed before. Well done to the author of this book. He is a most talented artist. Thank you Amazon for supplying this book, too.

Very good book
This is an excellent book for learning how to draw dogs, it's not the best only because of it's size, I have since found another that covers other animals too and is very large so you get a more lifesize image to copy. But this is still a very good book that I would recommend.

particularly the hair and getting the dark and light parts in a good balance ( something i struggle with
This is a book which gives you tips and answers to all the usual questions you would ask when trying drawing animals, particularly the hair and getting the dark and light parts in a good balance ( something i struggle with, either getting in too much detail and looking very overdone, or not enough detail, leaving it like a half finished sketch. For me, this is my tutor on hand, any time I need help.

Fantastic pencil drawing guide
Fantastic tips on how to draw life-like dogs and dog portraits in black pencils. A good step-by-step guide on how to work on details like eyes, the nose and whiskers - which can be a bit tricky for a novice.Highly recommend this book.
