FYI. Without the plastic piece in the package, you can't install the handle. You have to take out the original metal piece and put the plastic piece in, then the replacement handle will fit.

We needed a replacement for our shower knob as the threads were stripped from the handle piece. I read the reviews that said if the knob was older that I would need to replace the adapter mount. I’m not super handy, so I wasn’t exactly sure what I was doing at first as there are no instructions. However, it was pretty intuitive once I started taking the old one off. Easy peasy.

My existing one completely lost the thread and because of that the handle keep falling out, this replacement fit exactly correct, few observations1. Both new and old are chrome and completely made of metal, but the new one is considerably weighs little light when compare to the old one, cost saving by Moen.2. The adapter comes with new one is made of plastic, it replaces a metal adapter comes originally with the faucet.Tips:- Always close the drain before you replace this hub, never ever drop any screws in the drain, you will regret it.- The allen key comes with this hub is little longer, it was tough for me work in my small work area, glad i had a smaller version of it in my tool box which i used it.- Before you order this, if you have the receipt and original owner, check with Moen, they will send you the replacement part free of charge. I am not the original owner hence I bought this item from Amazon.

This is a replacement for all single-handle Monticello's with the replaceable end piece used by Moen from the 90's forward.The mounting system is different, but that's okay, the mounting plate (piece of black plastic in this kit) replaces the existing metal mounting plate. Just remove the phillips head screw that holds it to the cartridge and this one goes on in it's place.Don't try to adapt the handle to the existing mounting because you think metal is better (it isn't in this case), just take the cast metal piece that screws to the cartridge, throw it away and use the new mounting plate. I've used this kit on a 1996 Monticello and a 2003 Monticello and other than removing the old handle, it was a 5 minute job.

Item was difficult to find since the shower faucet was very old. None of the retail stores carried it. The part number was slightly different but it was a perfect fit.

A couple of reviewers indicated this is a newer product and does not work with the older Moen value. They are correct that this is a newer version and it works better than the older version. This comes with a hard plastic part that replaces the brass center part on the older value. Use a Philips head screw driver to remove the screw in the center of the original brass part. Be careful to keep everything aligned when doing this. Then replace the brass part with the new plastic part, using the new screw, which is also provided. Then replace the outside chrome cover. If you have hard water, the new plastic part will not retain the mineral deposits which plague the brass piece you replace.

There were the internal design and parts changed. Overall it fits and works, but there is a gap created and feels that handle would fall off, tho it fixed. Some add-on must be inserted.

I want to make sure that the part is same my existing hub. I called moen by providing the part number (see image of old and new) and confirmed for accuracy. It worked perfectly as this is the correct replacement unit for the Montecello faucet hub. It will cost $$$$$ when you order thru Moen.
