These drives can be controlled by anything that generates step/direction signals. Mach3/4, LinuxCNC, other PC-based CNC applications, microcontrollers like Arduino or Raspberry Pi, etc. For microcontrollers, you will need something that outputs/tolerates 5V TTL signals, so for a RPi, that means using a level shifter between the controller and the Pi.
