Pat Sloan's Teach Me to Applique: Fusible Appliqué That's Soft & Simple

I’ve been watching Miss Pat Sloan for some time now and she is a phenomenal in all she does and I always wanted to learn appliqué and now I will.

You can't go wrong when you buy a book by Pat Sloan. I was not a fan of the applique process, but sometimes you need to make them, especially if you join a block trade or block of the month challenge. After reading this book and following Pat's instructions and tips the process and outcome has improved. Appliques are no longer bulky & stiff, they softly float above the surface adding depth and dimension.

I am working on the Farmers' Market quilt from this book. I printed the templates from the PDF, checked that the 2-inch reference line actually measured 2 inches, and proceeded to cut out the pieces using the template and the instructions. But now it's time to place the pieces on the background rectangles, and I'm finding the measurements given in the book are totally inadequate. I'm posting a photo of the "seedling" block as an example. I cut fabric to 8 1/2" x 10 1/2" (actually a little larger). My pieces do not come close to fitting in the same way as the reference.I can still make this quilt but I'm going to have to completely re-draw the blocks and figure out new measurements.Disappointing that I have to do all this additional work, but I think I will still learn a lot and end up with an OK quilt, which was my goal.

It made all the difference when sewing the appliqué to folloow the book with the wonderful suggestions.

Love this book. It makes it easier for someone who to self taught by using books plus there are videos you can watch.

Pat Sloan is a fantastic teacher. I would recommend any of her books.

Since signing up for Pat Sloan's Simple Sampler Quilt Along, I have found this book VERY helpful and informative. I had never done applique before, but now after reading through the book and doing a few different projects I'm asking myself why I never tried it earlier! I strongly recommend this book for anybody starting out in applique as well as for those needing a little refresher!

Well illustrated, instructions clear and easy to follow. A gem of a book.

A little simple for me

Quite disappointed to say the least! Not sure what I thought with this purchase! Not only was I overcharged for the book, plus shipping for some unknown reason but the book is only perfect for maybe a person new to appliquing!
