Pretty disappointed. Maybe just from the hype of the reviews? I am just starting the 10th out of 21 essays. I really thought the essays would follow the thinking of the first essay. You read about a women and a powerful moment in her life that challenged her mentally and physically. And while some went threw extreme challenges (a shooting) many of the outcomes were very superficial. While there are life lesson- how to correctly wash your skin- those lessons don’t really align with the title of the book “how to become dangerous”. I hate to say the pun but don’t judge this book by its cover. It’s also been extremely unrelatable. Which again might be a personal issue. When one author talked about her heritage I thought we would get a lesson about that heritage but we got a lesson in lipstick (which I love and wear everyday, just didn’t want to necessarily read about it?). Idk it sort of feels rushed like they asked random people to write and only got enough responses to make the book so had to put every response in it? I’m waiting for the book to recapture me the way the first essay did but that might be why that essay is first, cause it is the strongest. Which is disappointing

I adored this book of essays. Most of the essays are outstanding, and all of them are interesting. Great point of view and love all the different voices presented in this collection. Thank you.

I was excited to get this book and it did not disappoint. The further I got into the essays the more they spoke to me, there are some incredible standouts in here. I highly recommend it.

This book is full of raw tenderness of life. So many stories that are powerful on it's own, with each one the reader feels the excitement and joy of life inspite of all ramblings and hardships that life throws at us. This book is special and reminds us to choose to look at life from your own special perspective. I enjoyed reading from so many empowered and powerful women/queer/trans people, this book is my personal little jem.
