Shark Tooth Hunting on the Carolina Coast

If you own any beach finds, a shark tooth is probably the most coveted. This book gives you some science, some humor, and a lot of good info on iding your shark teeth finds. It reassures you that without the shark, some teeth are always going to be a bit of a mystery. Good read.

My husband and I started shark tooth hunting when we moved to SC. This book was helpful with ideas on finding and identifying teeth. It also helped set expectations that not every trip is going to yield that “big one” there is no magic. A very encouraging book for everyone hunting & collecting shark’s teeth.

This is a review of the Kindle version.The title made me laugh out loud when I first saw it, it seemed so specific. Then as I read through this brief opus, I realized that the author makes a point of not overstating anything about her hobby. As someone who was previously not even aware of it, I appreciated her lighthearted style. I loved the tongue-in-cheek recommendation of it as ideal for “vacationers averse to physical exertion” and her dry observation that waters containing many shark teeth are best explored from the beach. The practical information is straightforward: how and why almost all discovered teeth are fossilized, where best to find them, and how to identify the different species of owners. As simple as it may seem, it would have been nice to have a little more detail on the equipment and technique required, based on her obvious experience. Instead, the story and photos of a record catch of a giant shark seem forced in as filler, with a cocktail recipe thrown in at the end for good measure. A fitting finale for a guide to a pastime that can be indulged while you “plant it in a beach chair and search between your feet”!

I bought this book for my kids for our new hobby. This book is excellent. My kids and I really enjoy it. After studying and memorizing the book my middle son was able to correctly identify the teeth we found on the beach. I love that she goes into detail about all the different beaches and tips. I’m so glad she included the Charleston museum too. I highly recommend this book. Very informative and interesting. We love it!

I found my first shark tooth near Pawleys Island several years ago after a friend showed me what to look for. This is the book I wish I’d had at the time.Written in an entertaining style, the guide covers the different beach zones to search in, as well as information and photos on how to determine what type of shark the tooth came from.Great little beach read.

I'm planning a trip to the Georgia/Florida area and am dying to find some shark's teeth. Although this is listed as the "Caroline Coast" I'm hoping to find some on the beaches we visit. I am excited to be able to identify what type of tooth we find and follow the guide as to the best areas to look for them.

Even though I'll never go hunting sharks sharks teeth, this is a terrific book.

Very well written, well illustrated. Plenty of shark tooth photo's. Good guide.
