but it looks great and you'd have to examine it closely to determine ...
I give this 5 stars for looks, function and price. It is laminated particle board, but it looks great and you'd have to examine it closely to determine that it is not real wood. I've looked at solid wood file cabinets and they're 5-10 times the price and definitely not worth it for my purpose. I'm using it for a home non-business office and the size is exactly what I was after and didn't see anything that came close, especially in real wood.As others have stated, it is just like assembling IKEA furniture. I took my time and got it together in 2 hrs and 40 minutes. The pictures and parts are all labeled, with each set of parts in a segmented bag and presented in the order needed. Just tear open each as you work through the instructions. They give you the exact quantity you need in each segment and the last bag contains some extra parts that I didn't even need.I cheated and used a 1/4" impact driver to drive the cam screws in. It saved me a lot of time, but you have to be careful not to overdrive as you'll strip the holes in the particle board. I had no problems. The lock is a deterrent, but should not be considered a security item. If someone broke into it, they'd have to mar the surface to get in and you'd know it was breached, but it won't stop a burglar rummaging through your house when you're not home. Anything needing that kind of protection should be locked in a safe anyway.I just started loading it and with two drawers open, it did tip over. No problem I was right in front of it to catch it, but the drawers weren't full, so it surprised me being that it has a relatively low profile. That's probably one of the reasons the lock is on the top drawer. If you had young kids, lock the top, hide the key and they couldn't pull it over on themselves. It'll never tip over with the bottom drawer alone.I saw a comment about the drawers not being able to hold a lot of weight. They weren't meant to be used as drawers for anything other than hanging files. The drawer bottoms are made of 1/8" pressed laminate that slide into 1/8" grooves that are routed out on all 4 sides of the drawer bottom. It is reinforced with a 3/4" X 2" solid wood slat in the middle of the drawer that runs from front to back giving a bit more support to the 1/8" thick bottom, but you wouldn't want to stack a lot of heavy stuff in it.It's more file space than I need, so I'm going to use some expandable hanging files to load non-file folder crap in in it. The structure for holding the files is very strong, as 1/8" X 1/2" flat metal stock fits tightly into wood cutouts in the drawer sides and the folders hang from them, bearing no weight on the bottom of the drawers. If your file folders could hold 10 lb. weights, the frames would have no trouble supporting them. If I had to guess, I'd say you could load about 10 lbs.of stuff on each side of the drawer bottoms with no worries; mainly because that center support is there. The inside of each drawer measures 25 1/2" Wide X 13.5" (Front to back) X 11.5" Deep. You can run 2 sets of the standard 12 1/2" hanging folders side by side from front to back in both the top and bottom drawers. There are optional steel flat bars that will allow you to run two of the files left to right inside the drawers instead of front to back..Hope this helps. I'm very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone if it fits your size and needs.

GREAT FILING CABINET - Don't Listen to the negative reviews about assembly
I am writing this review to give it 5 stars because it is unfairly receiving 4 stars due to: Assembly and only 1 drawer having a lock. The assembly is very simple, the instructions are very easy if you have ever built any office furniture before this will be a cake walk. Most people leaving reviews I feel are those that are familiar with ikea furniture which, although maybe simpler... Certainly not as high quality. The picture clearly shows that the filing cabinet has only 1 drawer that locks, so it is unfair to knock a star for it... You get what you pay for. If you want a filing cabinet of this quality with a lock on the top and bottom, good luck finding it under $500.PRO'S: Looks amazing and the wood is very solid. For the price, it is an excellent find and I couldn't even come close to finding something that looks this nice under $200. Most of the comparable filing cabinets that look like this are in the $350 - $450 low end range plus shipping. If you are a PRIME member the free shipping is unbelievable.CON'S: It would be nice to have both drawers lock, but as I stated previously... I knew what I was purchasing and for my business I only require one drawer to remain locked, anyway. The assembly was time consuming and states that 2 people should finish in 55 minutes. It took me closer to 2 hours by myself during the work day as I was fielding calls. But for the most part it was very simple.. I can't complain due to price though. Just have some patience and understand that there are a lot of parts such as the dowels that seem unnecessary, but they are there for the extra support.

Love it or hate it, but at a good price :)
I don't often write reviews but after reading some of the reviews here I decided to put my 2 cents... I ordered this product because it fit my needs to place it in a very particular spot. Other products that would fit there were priced 2-3-4x as much as this one (2 drawer lateral 30" wide). For what I paid I expected to have its caveats which is what I am writing about:1. Package arrived fairly quick (1 week or so) and was in good condition. Upon opening the package I noticed lose wooden dowries and camlocks strewn among the panels. The plastic packaging of the mounting hardware had come undone and the pieces had to be collected and counted to make sure that I wasn't missing anything, and fortunately that was that. One of the drawer bottom wooden braces was came damaged (thankfully not broken) but since it goes under the drawer bottom I didn't care. Had it been one of the exterior panels though I would have been upset.2. Installation instructions I found to be clear despite requiring lengthy pre-assembly (i.e. place all of the screws, wooden dowries, camlocks, etc on each panel). The panels and mounting hardware were clearly labeled (apart from the undone plastic pouches I mentioned above).3. I am an engineer and handy with tools, so it took me roughly just over 2 hours to assemble the whole thing alone. While instructions were clear to me, I can see how another person who may not be as adept or handy-man type, to struggle with reading and putting this thing together. Only difficulty came with the drawer rails who took a bit of an effort to fully "push-in" but when all was said and done, the drawers open nicely.I did not see any issues with hole misalignment as some other reviewers have claimed but then again, have seen it on other products so it can't be ruled out.To summarize, the product looks good after assembly and fairly sturdy (it's a bit on the light side so wouldn't load the top drawer too heavy and risk a tip over - I hate wall securing hardware so didn't use them). I feel for the price it's a good deal.
