The project I'm working on right now I have 2 pieces of lightweight chipboard stacked. One is a template for aligning the hole for the bottom piece. Punches through easily. Hope this helps.

I have not, but I doubt it will work. It is not as powerful as a crop-a-dial. For fabric, I use a Crop-A-DIAL POWER Punch.
