Simple Blessings: Coloring Designs to Encourage Your Heart

My 90 year old mother expressed to me an interest in adult coloring, so I started looking for something suitable for her needs. She has some vision issues, so I wanted attractive pages that were simpler than the complex designs of many adult coloring books. I also needed to find a book with bolder, darker lines. Keeping her personal tastes in mind, I narrowed subject down to flowers, gardens, butterflies or landscape. I literally looked at hundreds of books, on amazon, in person at Powells Book Store (look it up!), and at craft supply stores, and found nothing my daughter and I agreed was suitable.Finally, on yet another look through Amazon, I came upon this book. The subject is perfect, scripture verses and inspirational sayings with delightful "down home" illustrations in bold, dark lines. Some of the pictures are a bit more detailed than I wanted, but will work. Most are just the right amount of detail to be fun and challenging, but not complicated enough for frustration.The paper is bright white, with a slight texture (not quite as smooth as copy paper) that is perfect for color pencils. The paper is also a nice weight. Using marking pens might seep through, but I dont think gel pens would.It's a gift, so I don't have the recipients input, but I am pretty sure she will be delighted! I know I am!UPDATE: Gave this to my Mom when I saw her at Thanksgiving. She was delighted, just as I expected. Most everytime when I talk to her on the phone, she mentions she has been coloring. The pictures are detailed enough to be fun, but not too detailed for her to see, and the bolder lines help in that regard as well.

The media could not be loaded. I was first introduced to Karla Dornacher's artwork in various cross stitch designs I have stitched over the years. I was really happy to find that she is also now publishing some of her lovely and faith-affirming designs for adult coloring books. As soon as I saw this book (and her most recent release “Garden Blessings”), I purchased them and am anxious to start coloring them immediately.There are 23 designs with mostly Bible verses and some simply inspirational quotes in this book and each one is printed on one side of the page. The pages are not perforated but there is plenty of room to remove a page with a pen knife if you choose to do so. All of my markers bleed through the page readily and my gel pens do as well but to a lesser extent. I would place a piece of chipboard or heavyweight paper or two under the page I am working on to keep ink from seeping through.I really love that there are so many faith-oriented coloring books being published for adults. I think this would make a perfect gift for someone who needs a little bolstering – along with some colored pencils and maybe a little friendly coloring time, it would be a real blessing to give or to receive.

This is my favorite of the adult coloring books. I love Karla's illustrations!!! If I have anything to add to the current reviews it would be that these are great books to give as gifts to friends or family who are in the hospital or at home healing and recovering who are bed bound and could use a little pick-me-up. Give to your younger teenage girls to keep them busy at church while the pastor preaches. Fantastic thing to keep in a "go" bag for plane/train/automobile trips or longs waits in the doctor's office or hospital waiting rooms, or restaurants. Would even be a neat thing to leave behind in waiting rooms, as a random act of kindness. What a wonderful thing also, to give to all your lady friends - have them all over for a coloring session and snacks -- or use with your gal friends (in or out of town) as a great way to memorize scriptures together. Also great to have on hand when a friend with older girls comes to visit, you can offer them something to do that will keep them entertained for a while. And, I love the Crayola fine point Twistables Colored Pencils. They are the perfect companion to this coloring book.

I find the pictures beautiful and cute, simple pictures with some details to color. Why 4 stars not 5, her price. I love that it does not take forever and a day to complete a picture. Now the negative since these are simple drawings compared to many other adult coloring books and many less pages to color... WHY are the color books from her so expensive? To be fair other Christian color books are the same. If you compare other color books based on pages, details of the artwork , quality, other reviews, cost for number of pages per book, simple artwork, and there are no copyright issues using the Bible. I think she and others using Christian verses the cost would be less not more! Usually you get less you pay less.I am a big fan of Christian based everything so please allow me my opinion. Thank You.

Love her books! Wish she would create more (hint hint). I like to color while watching tv at night! These are perfect! Not too detailed, but just enough that I can use alcohol markerrs or gel pens .. even my sharpies. Please create more!!!! =)

Good designs and pretty pictures!

Really easy coloring which I like the less complicated books that FOCUS on the WORD of GOD. However the pages are quite thin and bleed through with gel pens, so put a piece of paper under each page you color. Also they pages are NOT perforated and this would be so much better if it was spiral bound for coloring!

Professional drawings by hand, (not computer generated, copy-paste, minified versions) - designed for you to colour. Spaces are big enough, your pencil can fit in.Thank you for taking the time to draw it by hand. That was the reason I bought it.

Sadly, some of the letters are not obvious, particularly the G for God! It doesn't even look like a G?! This spoils the whole book for me.

fun pictures to colour, with encouraging words , well designed, think it would be fun to do.,i hope my friend is enjoying it, she washappy to have it as she was impressed with the mixture of Christian words and designs.
