Wing Chun for the Modern Warrior

Great book for basic principles
This is a great book for basic principles of Wing Chun. My Sifu is always going on about footwork and centerline so it's good to get that reinforcement. It's only drawback for me is its Christian theological arguments. I get where the author is coming from but I'm a Buddhist, so it doesn't work for me. However that doesn't detract from the solid presentation of the pragmatics of the system. I especially liked the author's emphasis on self defence vs. sports training like MMA or competitive BJJ. Wing chun is not a sport. That's why you literally train to go for the throat, eyes and other vulnerable parts. Also, I appreciate the comments he makes on how hard other styles can be on the body. My short BJJ career ended after a blue belt dumped me on my head giving me a concussion. But being in my 50s is no impediment to my wing chun training.

Great Book
This is a really well written book! Korol has a way of getting to the root of the situation without all the BS. For persons wanting to understand Wing Chun as a true "life protection" system, this book is a must!!

My favorite Martial Arts techinque
Very insightful and very important to defend yourself and be a true warrior of Wing Chun, I took some practice in this by studying this iconic martial arts unique from Ip Man to Bruce Lee, through the author of this book Jason, it's very simple and very straightfoward to learn from this book, so thx a lot.

Excellent read for current times
I haven't read it all the way through but this book covers why I train in wing chun to begin with I'm a humble warrior I train for hand to hand combat life and death. Wing chun is not is not a sport system with rules designed to keep competitors safe in a controlled environment this is a hand to hand combat system designed for tight spaces and survival. If a person who trains feels eye gouges or lethal throat strikes is barbaric I can only tell you two realities about that mindset 1 they have never had to fight for their life to survive 2 they are martial artists Not Warriors!

ethics, meaning and science behind wing chun kuen trchniques
very good book on the science behind wing chun kuen. The author is a very straight forward logical writer and sifu. Lots of information on the ethics behind martial arts and explanations on how to do what makes wing chun kuen one of the most scientific infighting and self defense styles on the planet. The author also has great videos on youtube. Books that are not just about the techniques but explain the meaning behind them are few and far between. Anyone that is into (Chinese) Boxing can find much value in this book

A True Thesis on Self-defense (with pictures!)
I have to be honest; I'm biased because the author is my sifu. But when I combine practicing these very skills he writes about - with a virtual Masters thesis on the topic of Wing Chun, self-defense, and a warrior's philosophy. But the author describes in intricate detail, such practical application of a wonderfully logical martial art form... that a novice practitioner such as myself can see the movements described come to life in my mind's eye. I recommend this book to anyone whose ever expressed the tiniest interest in martial arts. Before they know it, if they take Sifu Jason's book words to heart - they might just become philosophers of the first themselves.

Good read
I enjoyed the book, simple and to the point , I only gave 4stars because I’m a visual learner, and there wasn’t enough pictures for me. That said it really is a 5 star read!Thank you Sifu Jason!Brian P.

The form serves a function.
Jason Korol's writing is concise, hilarious, and extremely insightful. He explains common misconceptions within Wing Chun and offers tangible definitions of his own instead. He describes some overall objectives of Wing Chun (e.g. facing/non-facing) as a self-defense system AND some subtle features that are often overlooked but that are of vital importance (e.g. shifting). Jason also delves into the cult-like traditionalism of some Wing Chun schools and, by using common examples, explains why each martial artist should respect history but not be bound by it. This is a must-read for anyone who's serious about Wing Chun.

Insight
Good breakdown on the main concepts involved using wingchun for self defense the core reason for the system, fighting in the real world the street ,park, train, etc if unfortunate to be forced to defend yourself how does wing chun help you to control and deal with this situation. The author takes you on a journey to understand the main tools within the system to ensure an effective application in the real world ,used with a training partner this information will make the system more alive and dynamic,a few more photos would have helped to explain the concepts better as those with less experience in this art may become confused, although the book is linked to a couple of you tube videos which probably cover the areas I am referring to good read for sure.

Would of given this 5 stars but...
This is a down to earth common sense book and takes on board the message Bruce Lee had for the Martial Arts they need to remain up to date! however the author sees fit to push his Christian beliefs for no reason other than do preach, if he's writing about a Chinese MA why not talk about their made up Gods rather than his made up God?? I may or may not got anymore of his books if their like this?

A good edition to my collection
I follow the authors you tube channel wnd reading this book was like having him in front of me narating one of his vids.A good book, a little un-structured at times but gave good food for thought and an enjoyable read from an accomplished Wing Chun brother. Wing Chun needs more people like him.
