Tasty Recipes. Take it from a non-cook!!
Let me start by saying that I am not a cook. I bought this book because my mother came to live with me and suffers from Coronary Heart Failure and after she received a really bad fluid retention test, I decided to buy a cookbook and teach myself how to make healthy meals. My biggest problem was the timing. My first attempts were edible but dry. I would recommend that you purchase a meat thermometer and start with the shortest cooking time and go from there. That being said, everything I've tried has been delicious. I've even branched out into experimenting with some of the recipes; I tried raisins, "dried plums," and no sugar added fruit spread in the meatloaf and it was delicious! The tortilla soup is also A++++.Mom went from a fluid retention of 800 to normal and I owe it to this cookbook.Keep in mind that the recipes are not mostly just "throw it in the crock pot and forget it until it's done," they're a lot of work (or at least the ones I've tried so far are;except the meatloaf). HOWEVER, the end results are well worth the effort. I was surprised at how incredibly tasty these were, and let's face it, Mom isn't the only one who needed to eat better! So, if you're looking for a healthy cookbook, look no further. If you're like me and are not a cook, try this one. The recipes are easy to follow and clear and concise. The only thing I would request is for us newbies, some side dish examples would be great (hey, I told you I wasn't a cook)!

I am going to be very honest about this cookbook because it really is phenomenal, so long as you're looking to change how you eat and get healthy without (much) compromising on flavor. I bought this cookbook in Jan. 2015. Since then, I rotate between this and one other low calorie cookbook. Between the two, I've lost over 50 lbs. This cookbook is neither the easiest nor the cheapest one in my repetoire to cook out of, but it is the healthiest, especially in terms of sodium and fat content. Some of my all time favorite recipes are in this cookbook as well (Mexican chicken with sweet potatoes and that veggie pasta casserole are some of my best go-tos, but the seafood main dishes in this cookbook really shine). Over two years later and I'm still exploring new, fun things in this cookbook. However, the recipes often -- but not always -- call for a lot of prep time and use higher-end ingredients. But I consider that a small sacrifice on my fitness journey, and I don't know where I'd be today without this cookbook. I also bought it as a brand new cook, and I managed just fine as a cooking newbie.

Healthy and Tasty - A Great Crockpot Cookbook
I found this book at the library first, and kept referring to several recipes to make from it. That decided me that I had to have my own copy so I wouldn't keep the library's copy hostage any longer. I use the bean recipes frequently, as a way to use the abundant quantities of peppers and herbs coming from the garden. They are convenient and very tasty. I especially like that the recipes aren't the standard "Crockpot Conformity" kind you see everywhere, they are different and flavorful, and unique. The crockpot helps keep dinner on the table during the work week by letting things cook slowly while I'm away, and this cookbook is one of my favorite go-to resources to keep dinner interesting. I never liked the old "open a few cans, dump them in, and walk away" versions of cooking in the crockpot, so this cookbook is in a different, much better, league of its own. I refer to this cookbook weekly for new ideas to try out, and it just keeps on giving inspiration. Plus, the house smells great of dinner cooking when I walk through the door!

Don't buy - unless you like really bad food or you need bird cage liner
This is one of those books I regret purchasing because while it shipped Prime I could not return it without paying the shipping cost. The book pretty much sucks (hate to be so blunt but that is how I feel). I wanted a heart healthy book that had easy to make recipes. This is not that book. There is far too much prepping, weighing and cooking - both before and after the cooking. The book relies heavily on things like no salt added beans or fat free sour cream or fat free cheese. Well if I am going to eat healthily I will certainly make my own beans in my pressure cooker or slow cooker so that I can avoid the salt and any other stuff they put in the can. And once you tell me to use fat free substitutes - most of which are made with gross//non-fresh ingredients you have lost me. Ditto with telling people to cook with Worcestershire or soy sauce - even if you are using the lowest sodium possible. I also object to cooking spray in a can. I prefer to use the olive oil that I have in my own sprayer. There is no meal plan and too much meat. I could see lots of people making bad choices. There are too many sweet dishes - heart healthy is not only about limiting fat and cholesterol but also sugar. For instance, why not have a recipe for quinoa, kale, and garlic rather than maple syrup quinoa. Finally, the whole point of a slow cooker is to be able to make things while you are away. I can make many of the things that are in this book faster and more easily (both in terms of cooking and cleaning) and probably healthier than this set of recipes.

Tasty Recipies
I like this book because it tends to offer recipies that are lower in sodium (but not bland), but some of the ingredients can be hard to find; like, "no salt added tomato paste". I haven't been able to find such a product. I like that the recipies are for the 3-4 quart slow cooker, which is plenty big for my husband and I with generous leftovers. If you are new to slow cookers, as I was, you may find all the information about slow cooking inside the first couple of chapters very helpful. It would be easier to use if the book was spiral bound. Not a lot of pictures, but the descriptions given for each dish with suggestions for serving are good. The book seems to favor using oval shaped cookers.

A lot of great recipes.
My wife handed me the book and cut up a bunch of “tabs” to mark the ones I’d like to try. Instead I marked the ones I knew I wouldn’t like. It wasn’t very many. So far the ones we have tried have been delicious.

Big thumbs up.
Easy to follow directions. Delicious recipes. I'm a picky eater, and I've loved every one I've tried.

I'm usually a skeptic of buying a cookbook, because you never know what you'll get. I was pleasantly surprised with this one. While the soups need about 4 packs of oxo added and extra broth, the other meals were tasty and repeatable
