my 15 BMW 640i, (F06) was giving a check engine light, decoded to be emission system leak, and found a solution says that 95% of times its the gas cap faulty because of extended use over it original design. changed it, fit just right and the light went off after couple drives. sweet!

While it is true this gas cap "fits the hole and looks like it should work". The fit and the look does not tell fhe full story.Truth is.... E90 328 BMW expects a specific, particular, Gas Cap. When the specific, particular Gas Cap is not installed, the computer will intermittently sound an alarm and flash a "replace Gas cap message." Eventually the service engine soon light will turn on and stay on.. even when you purchase the specific, particular gas cap. The service engine soon light must be turned off using a tool most people do not have. Total cost to fix.. $30.00 for the cap from the dealer, about $100.00 diagnostic fee (ie dealer reset light).If you need a gas cap... Buy it from the dealer and install it before the soon engine light comes on. Because either way the OEM Cap must be purchased and diagnostic leak test done after that to confirm issue is resolved.
