At last my head is safe again!
If you are reading this you most likely have been propping up your hatch back for some time now. Probably in denial..saying things like it still works some of the time. Meanwhile you are usually trying to support the hatch with one hand or the back of your head while unloading a cart of groceries into the back. Well you if you have a bit of Do It Yourselfism and few simple tools then relief is near. These struts work and fit perfectly in my 90 Crx so hopefully the same will be true for you. As others have said the instructions are not very good so here is a simple guide which might be of assistance. Open the hatch and prop it in place with something or someone stout enough to keep it open even when jostled a bit. Use a flat blade screwdriver or something similar to pry off the cover on the bottom of one strut. Don't worry there aren't any little tabs or such to break it just pops off. Then use an adjustable wrench or metric socket to remove the bolt holding the bottom of the strut. As you are removing the bolt the strut will be pushing or pulling on it so be careful not to let the bolt get out of line especially when it is almost fully out. If it skews badly the threads can be damaged so keep vigilant and if necessary pull or push on the strut to take pressure off the bolt as you remove it. Once the lower bolt is removed the strut will be hanging from the top ball stud. Use a small adjustable wrench or metric end wrench to unscrew it and remove the strut. Unpack the new strut and find the new ball stud and metal washer. Put the washer on the stud and thread it into the hatch and tighten with a wrench. Snap the top of the new strut onto the ball stud..just press it on until it clicks into place. Find the 2 new nylon washers and put the thinner one on the bolt you removed from the bottom of the original strut. Put the bolt with washer through the eye on the bottom of the new strut so the head of the bolt is under the strut cylinder. Install the new thick nylon washer on the bolt. This setup doesn't look much like the plastic washers/spacer on the original strut but just go with it. Next you have to push or pull the lower end of the new strut to line up the bolt with the threaded hole. This can be a bit tricky and a helper can be well..helpful. Get the bolt threads started by hand then tighten securely with a wrench or socket. Snap the cover on over the bolt. The last item is a small wire clip to help retain the top ball stud should the spring steel retainer break. The pictures are confusing but see if this helps. Visualize the top end of the strut as the head and neck of a person with the stud as the nose. The curved "C" portion of the wire retainer clips over the "neck" so the straight part lies next to the "nose". Mine didn't fit particularly well but your mileage may vary. Repeat for the other side and you are done. Hope this helps a bit.

outstanding product
We are so thrilled about these stong arms for our daughters Honda CRX. We were so worried about her slamming the hatchback on her head and we were so pleased to find these strong arms. These are a very difficult product to find. We found a few that said they were for this car but they weren't. By chance hubby looked at Amazon.com and found them. We were and are exceptionally happy with this product and the company on their quick delivery. Thank you for giving us at least one thing not to worry about with a teen on the road...lol Tammy :o)

Ended up working, but I had to order some ...
Ended up working, but I had to order some parts from Honda. Before you buy make sure you have a clevis mount on the bottom instead of a ball mount. I guess some previous owner changed to a shock with ball mounts on both ends. I had to buy the lower bolts from the dealer to make this work.

Hurray!
YEA, NO MORE having the trunk slam on our heads when unloading groceries! No more taking turns holding it up and struggling! A few minor "adjustments" (we needed different bolts for mounting) for install and the trunk is working great. Very pleased all around!

Not what I expected!
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. I own a 1988 Honda CRX Si.It's not what I expected! The original mounts aren't the same as the ones from Strong Arm. Is there an adapter available?
