Too short to hold a file folder
These dimensions are exterior. They are too short to hold a file folder, which is why I got them. Fine for books but they aren't going to hold many picture books because they are short front-to-back.

Nice product for home schooling
Good enough for elementary. Due to online schooling, I tried to match it with the ones teacher used at school. It is easy for my 6 years old to know which color goes with which topic of his daily study(math, reading, writing etc).
