A History of Economic Thought

This is an excellent introduction to the history of economic ideas. It is well-written and organized effectively around four major schools of economic thought. The chapter on Keynesian economics is particularly insightful in its analysis and policy implications. I strongly recommend it.

This is not an introduction of economic thought throughout the history. It's more like the notes of the collage professor.I read the first chapter and gave up.Here is how the book reads like:Adam belives that ***, it's not comprehensive, later on, others believe that ***, which is better.What I'm trying to say is that:if this is an introductory book, it should introduce1. the idea of Adam Smith2. Theories before Adam3. why Adam's theory is better.While the book is doing the opposite way:1. super short introduction of Adam's theory2. Many theories after Adam3. Adam's theory is very limited(basic a piece of junk).After reading the first chapter, I understand nothing but1. Adam's great theory is fauty.2. There are tons of theories better.3. Too many other theories mentioned in the chapter and I'm not able to re-call any of it.

This was a short and concise introdution to the evolution of economic ideology. It was easy to read and provided sound examples. It is a very good starting point for an absolute novice to get a basic grounding, before going into more detailed texts or even the readings of the economists themsleves.

Nice over view. I have a mild disagreement with this book about Malthus. But WTF?

I bought this for a young friend, hoping to become an economics undergraduate at university this year. He was delighted with this book and I'm sure it will be a useful primer for him.
