VasqueMen's Juxt Hiking Shoe

Best (most versatile) shoes I've ever owned
I waited more than 6 months to review these shoes and can finally attest to their superior quality! I've completed nearly 500 miles of trail hikes on them as well as worn them to work ever day for nearly 6 months. Being assigned to a Violent Crimes Task Force in an urban city, I have pushed these shoes to their breaking point. From hiking the Sierra Nevada's to the swamps of South Florida, I discovered solid stability and support that I haven't experienced in any other shoe. From dry climate in high elevation, to extreme summer temps at sea level, my feet were never too cold or too hot. The shoes allow for enough ventilation to keep feet dry and allow the shoe to dry quickly after being completely submerged in water. In urban environments, the shoes allow for rapid mobility and unprecedented grip while running and performing any type of task you would need to accomplish. I wish I could tell every story but at the sake becoming too long winded, I will simply say, you will not be disappointed with these shoes!!!*Note: the loop on the back of one of the shoes broke several months ago and the sole is finally starting to fall apart on one shoe. That said, I have put these shoes through so much abuse, I couldn't possibly begin to blame that on the manufacturing. Just wanted to point that out. Also, after purchasing these shoes, it took almost a week to break them in.

Okay not great. More trail runner than hiker.
Could it be that the Juxt is called a "multisport" shoe because it does several things okay, but nothing really well?Length:Relatively true-to-size, if a smidge long. I normally buy 9.5 when choosing a shoe that will be used for hiking to ensure there will be no toe bang. The size 9 Juxt is fine.Width:Sufficient room in the toebox. Definitely fits a more snugly through the forefoot than a typical "hiker"; might be more like an approach shoe. The heel pocket is not as narrow as the forefoot... might be more like the toebox. The extra lacing eyes and webbing allow for a very customized fit from toe to ankle.Heel pocket:For me, this is the most disappointing aspect of the shoe. Not sure if I can describe this in a way that will be comprehensible, but... the heel of the shoe, and the heel pocket, are shorter, top to bottom, than on a standard hiker. For me, this means that the heel doesn't feel as securely strapped in. And while the unique lacing arrangement holds the fore and mid foot securely, it does not lock the heel in place. On the first few wearings, there was noticeable heel lift. This has diminished somewhat as the shoes have broken in - perhaps because the sole has softened up and perhaps because the shoe is molding to my foot. But it remains true that the heel fit of the Juxt does not seem as... secure... as on the Lowa and Merrell hiking shoes I've owned..Support:Torsional rigidity is okay, probably a result of the design of the sole. But the shoe is fairly soft. More a lightweight "trail runner" than a substantive "hiker". Can feel rocks through the sole - which is okay when scrambling, but can be painful / tiring on a long day of talus hopping.Sole:As above... a bit soft; doesn't appear to have much of a shank. Seems to grip well enough. Haven't had the shoe out in inclement weather so cannot comment on performance in wet or mud.Quality of materials / construction:No complaints (so far). Similar quality to my Vasque Snowblimes. If Lowas are BMWs, Vasque would be a Chevrolet. Solid materials and workmanship. Decent value at this price-point.One niggle:As another reviewer commented, the laces are constructed of a "slippery" material and have a propensity to loosen even when double knotted. Which can be annoying but is not really a "problem".

Love my Vasque
The only shoes I have ever ordered on line are Vasque. I've only had these shoes for around two weeks. Wearing these instead of my Vasque hiking boots. I've only put on a few miles around my neighborhood wearing these. When I walk I wear a 20lb weight vest. I thought because the inside heel felt hard when I pushed with my fingers it would walk hard. My mistake, the way the heel is shaped on the bottom it has a good amount of cushion give. I have flat feet and these along with my boots are the only things I wear. Before I got Vasque boots, I couldn't jump down from a foot because my feet hurt so bad. Now a few years later wearing the boots and now these. I could easily jump down around 5 feet. This might not sound like much to some but before I found this product, I was having so much trouble with my feet. Now they don't hurt when I get up or walk around. Last Christmas this 58 year old man tried a pogo stick. Hurt the instep of my left foot so bad I couldn't walk. Heat, cold, massage nothing. Till I put on my boot. I was at least able to walk on my foot without falling over. Only reason I didn't call in it was Christmas eve and I was really needed at work. I haven't had these out hiking yet but from the looks of the tread it should give a good grip. Overall these things are very comfortable. Would I buy them again. Yes, or I'd be trying another Vasque product. I bought my first boots at a store. Next boots on line just like these. I trust them that much and they feel like I'm walking on clouds sometimes. This says a lot for a flat footed person. I use the arch support in the shoe and don't have to replace them like I had to with other shoes I've bought.

Good enough to take out Bin Laden = good enough for me.
I also love these things. First...they look great...like nothing else on the market. I mean..these were the models used by SEALs when they took out Bin Laden so that's the only marketing you need...They're very lightweight and probably about 7/10 in comfort. They're not plush like some Merrel's I've tried, but these are very easy to get around in. Flat, wet surface grip is pretty lacking but for a rough terrain hike or run, no probs. I've had these for 4 months now and use about 3 days a week. The only damage I have is one of the stitched loops that laces run through near the toe has been ripped from it's sticking at one end. Mildly surprising. I don't over-tighten these things at all and it has not affected my use of it. 4/5 only because it can be slippery on wet floors and my loop.

Comfortable out of the box
I had a pair of these previously and looked it up on Amazon to see if I could get them there. Sure enough and the price was a bit better than I could get locally. My last pair lasted a couple of years with no malfunctions just wear so that's why I was so interested in getting a new set. That and they fit my foot well - which I realize is a personal thing so I know that will be different for each person.

Good buy
Had them for a few weeks now.So far so good. Very comfortable for walking long distances/hiking and everyday use. Well styled and made. Just waiting to see how the stiching will hold up. There was another green model that was waterproof (the tanned one is not) but can't find it anywhere unfortunately.

They fit my feet great
It is my second pair. They're priced a little on the high side but I couldn't find a Canadian reseller that have them in stock. They're great shoes and I recommend them.
