Not What I Expected
I have been out of the Foxpro world since 5.0. I was looking for a reference that would help get me up to speed and provide some assistance, some example code. This was not what I expected, and it seems a little light given the "stars" who contributed to it.Why can't the Foxpro community come out with a book like Ben Forta's Web Application Construction Kit for Cold Fusion? He shows you how to use the product, goes into each command and function, gives you example after example, tells you how to tie in to common and some uncommon areas, and generally provides the book that the software publisher SHOULD have published in the first place.C'mon, Foxpro authors! Kick it up a notch!

NO ACCESS TO HENTZENWERKE S/W EXAMPLES: FALSE ADVERTIZING
I bought this book with the promise to have access, by Hentzenwerke, to the great set of code examples that supposedly correlate to the topics in the book. WELL, GUESS WHAT, the zip files are compressed by using a proprietary algorithm. The publisher claims I must use modern unzip software!Nothing I nor my other expert CS colleagues can find anything works. An encryption key is required -- yes I have that as they issued it to me.BUT, my repeated requests to name the software and source for the unzipping have resulted in NO ANSWERS -- in other words get lost. Surely the publisher has the software that zipped it in the first place and clearly they have the same to unzip it. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO, PAY MORE MONEY FOR THE COPY OF THE SOFTWARE.THEY KNOW I PURCHASED THE BOOK WITH THEIR AUTHENTICATION PROCESS. WILL THEY SEND ME THE FILE UNZIPPED (NO). WILL THEY SEND ME THE S/W TO UNZIP (NO). DO THEY CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER SAT (NO).DON'T BUY THE BOOK. The version 9 Help system is pretty good to answer the question posed by the title.

What I needed
Has helpful documentation and explanations not readily available from web searches. Information is fairly easy to find and well written for us old FoxPro fossils.

A Quick Guide to the New Features
In spite of Microsoft's relative lack of marketing attention the Fox Pro database software has had it's development continued and has certainly maintained a loyal customer/development base. This book discusses the latest release of Visual FoxPro, which is now in Version 9. It concentrates, as you might guess from the title on What's New in Version 9.This book has four main sections:1. tools you use to create applications2. the Report Designer which had a major upgrade3. data, including new data type, new index, and a host of other changes.4. Everything else such as changes to the data model, new and modified commands. The publisher of this book, Hentzenwerke seems to have found a niche as perhaps the leading publisher of books on Visual FoxPro. They also maintain a web site with a specific section on this book including errata, updates and FAQs.This is a very handy book for the VFP developer to find out what's new without having to pour through standard documentation to find out.
