California Outages
After calculating the wattage needed to run essential home appliances and electronics, I bought this solely for emergencies (I don't camp). Ran it for a few hours to break it in and did its first oil change. Once a month, I poured just enough gas (treated with a fuel stabilizer) for 15-20min run time, and would I'd let it run dry. A year later, California started getting hit by planned outages due to wildfires. Generators and gas cans would fly off the shelves. Once we got hit, I pulled out the generator and it started right up. I ran a refrigerator, 2 lamps, satellite box, 50in flat screen TV, 2-camera security system, and chargers for phones. I ran a 100ft 16 gauge extension cord for low wattage electronics, and a second 100ft 12 gauge extension just for the refrigerator (living room and kitchen area is 80ft away from our backyard). Our fridge is on its way out, so it doesn't retain the temperature for very long without power. I had to keep the fridge running pretty much constantly from morning til' late in the evening. With all of that running at once (about a 50% load), I got about 6hrs of run time on 1gal with the economy mode switched off. I did try running the fridge on and off every other hour. When the fridge was disconnected, I'd switch to economy mode. That time, I got 8hrs of run time on 1 gal. We also ran a blow dryer without problem. This little generator got us through a 3-day outage and I was so glad that I had planned ahead of time.
