A LOT of fun to construct!
I bought one for my brother and one for me. The instructions are good, the pieces are well-made, the assembly is brilliantly conceived, and the end-result is very cool. And when you wind it up, it drives! Took about 3 hours (tho to be fair, I was also watching a Yankees game while I was building it!). Definitely a great gift!

Solid display piece and a blast to put together. Requires careful construction to work properly.
I am overall very satisfied with this model. I bought it recognizing that the mechanical operation of the piece could be iffy even if I did my best. Multi-gear structures, especially with wooden cogs, can be a challenge to get all of the moving parts to mesh. This is one of ROKR's high difficulty pieces with a "5 star" difficulty. I agree with that assessment. Like any "punch out" model, whether plastic or wood, one always needs to be careful not to force pieces out of either sprues or cut wood. I did not break a single piece in this kit, taking them out of the wooden boards. I could see someone without patience and fine motor control pressing too hard where they shouldn't and breaking something. I did NOT feel like pieces were going to break if I was careful. It is also noteworthy that many pieces, especially fragile or easily-lost-tiny come with backups! This is important attenuation to what it is like to assemble a model. The manufacturers are thinking all the way through the process. Many of the pieces have a pretty tight fit, and you really need to be cautious about knowing how much to force or not force. Had I built this when I was a teen (in my 40s now) I probably would have been frustrated. That isn't a fault of ROKR.So, I built the model being as careful as I could following the directions. It took me about seven-ish hours. While all my gears are engaged properly, and I can get the gears to turn with my hand, my model will not just "go" by winding up the spring and letting it go. There is a significant friction point or two that I'm struggling to identify without taking the whole thing apart. I knew this was possible when I purchased it and I purchased it knowing that, at the very least, it would be (and is) a great display piece. That is really what I intended it to do anyway. I could go through a long trouble-shooting process to figure out where my friction points are, but I'd honestly rather just display it than do that. Disassembly, once you get past certain points, is a real chore. Best to be as careful as possible as you go. I get my satisfaction out of building and displaying. There are a lot of connections in this model, and the more complex a machine is, the more likely things can go wrong. So, if your primary goal of this is a motive toy without hefty trouble-shooting, you need to consider that before purchasing. A lot of the frustration you see in one-star comments is people who were likely not careful in punching out pieces, negligent of keeping track of things, or who haven't really thought through the trouble-shooting needed with machines. And these people are usually all-too-eager to blame the manufacturer for their own weaknesses. What else? The model has some nice touches, like laser-cut accent art in strategic places. There are also some fun additional moving parts: side doors, a trap door out the top of the cab, and the car connector. The steam release stack also spins. Completely unrealistic, but a fun touch! So, I certainly don't regret purchasing or putting it together. Yes, a gear friction problem, but that's pretty likely with any machine this complex and I blame myself more than the model. If you want a nice train display model and enjoy the challenge of carefully putting together 3D machine puzzles, you will enjoy this!

Present
Great birthday gift for train enthusiasts. Lots of small parts, though.

Love the design, just the pieces break too easy
Got this for my boyfriend as a gift, since he use to be a semi driver. He has always been interested in anything that deals with a semi. Beautiful designs. Just be careful because the pieces do break easily.

Not for small kids
Thought I would order and try out the steam railroad engine before ordering for my grandsons. I’m glad I did I think it is still too complicated and too many small parts for them. But I’m having fun with it.Thanks

Bought as gift for boyfriend
I bought this for my boyfriend for a gift and he put it together in one day. He absolutely loved doing it and said it was well made. He added a piece of cotton for the steam😂💜

Have glue handy
The finished model is very attractive, detailed and authentic. But I found myself having to file down virtually every single male stub in order to make the parts fit without having to use force to the the point of breaking. And break I did, many times. I got to the point where I automatically filed down every male stub before even trying to make the fit. And if it was too loose a fit, I simply added a drop of instant glue to make it tight. I can't understand why the designers of this thing can't or won't make the parts fit easily. It takes all the fun out of putting it together, and turns it into the challenging chore, where you can't wait until it's complete. I've assembled several Rokr models, and this one is by far the most poorly designed in regard to assembly.

High quality 3-D puzzle
The media could not be loaded. This was the first ROKR puzzle I've purchased, but it won't be the last. The precision of the cuts on the parts is exceptional. I made the puzzle more difficult by deciding to paint the sub-assemblies as I went, but I thought the final product was worth it (see video). In order to be successful with this puzzle, you will need to be a meticulous, patient person. The instructions are very clear, but they must be followed exactly or you will end up frustrated. Here are a few tips for the adventurous: 1. If you have access to a copier, make a photocopy of the various sheets of the puzzle before removing the parts of the puzzle. This is especially important if you decide to paint it, since the numbers may be obscured by the paint. 2. If you paint it as you go, you may need to use a small file to remove paint on the mating surfaces. The tolerances are so close that the extra thickness of paint may cause parts not to fit. 3. Pay attention to the extra parts that are included on the last sheet of the puzzle. They are parts that are likely to break during assembly. Use extra care when assembling these parts. 4. Be sure you understand the directions before trying to assemble a component. The pictorial directions are similar to those found in IKEA furniture, but these are made with the precision of an architect. 5. When you are tired or don't understand something, take a break for the night. If you push on, you'll likely break a part or put something together incorrectly.I hope this review helps you decide if this puzzle is right for you. It's definitely not a child's puzzle. The first page of instructions states that this is for those over 14 years. I think that's about right. Again, my congratulations to the manufacturer for an extremely well-designed and well-built puzzle. It was a pleasure to assemble.

High quality
The quality is high!!!My 17 year son loves it, spent whole day putting out together, and asking what other 3D models this company has. Will by again for sure!

Excellent detailing, great finish and good challenge
Everything about this is great. The product quality was great, challenge was decent too with spring shock absorbers (was new to me) and details like chassis built, differentials for front and rear wheels, QR code scans for small video help in multipart interlocking built. Overall a great product and satisfying built.

Excellent but fiddly, but still excellent! 4.5 Stars
This is a great kit and you get a lot for the price.I am a VERY experienced plastic modeller but still found this kit to be a challenge. I made it with my 5yo Train-mad son and it was WAY out of his league; he loves the finished result though. The biggest issue was just how fragile some of the parts were but even here the kit most often provides replacement parts. You are trying to manipulate and occasionally force small, thin laser-cut parts into tight slots and unless you do it just right they can snap. The kit is a marvel of design - it is like putting together a very well engineered 3D puzzle.
