The Kingdon Pocket Guide to African Mammals: Second Edition (Princeton Pocket Guides)

This book is what it says it is; a guide to every species of African mammal. The plates are basic with illustrations of the species without any natural background and the descriptions are terse with little about their habits. I read a good bit about Africa and I think it will be helpful to see what the animal I'm reading about looks like. In the unlikely event I ever travel to Africa, I would certainly put it in my suitcase. Should you buy, just be aware it is a no-frills volume. I think Jonathan Kingdon has put out a larger book about African mammals. If you want more than the bare bones, that might be the way to go.

I had already bought an identification book, but it was not user friendly. This pocket guide will be much better.
