The action of the film takes place in the 17th century, in the period of the Polish-Swedish war. The plot is woven around the stormy love of the main character in the film, Andrzej Kmicic (Daniel Olbrychski), for a young gentlewoman named Ole=E4ka. Based on the novel by Nobel prize winning author Henryk Sienkiewicz, much of this exciting and romantic film was shot in authentic, ancient Polish castles. Full screen letterbox format. Disgrace
This is a beautiful piece of Polish cinematography, great acting, movie done with all the details imaginable to that part of Polish history. However, copy is really bad, colours are faded, subtitles are changing very fast and are very hard to follow but this is not the worst yet. Whoever did translate, wasn’t obviously familiar with idioms, nobility titles etc. I am privileged to watch this movie in Polish however my kids who don’t speak Polish were unable to catch 70% of the translation. This movie should not be advertised as subtitled. Hard to say, if the translation is the butchery of Polish or English language… or both. Collectors and English speaking audience beware of this poorly made attempt to translate.
