what is the top part of the coaster made of? Will it break when dropped?

it is made of very hard plastic and I dropped them, dropped heavy cups on them and nothing has cracked or shattered! So you should be fine!

How many coasters do you get when you purchase them? It looks as if you only get 2 which is my only problem with this product.

It comes with 2. I felt the same way but when I gave them to my husband he loved them! Totally worth it!
