Amazingly informative
Alexandra Kirtley's American Furniture is a gem. Her writing is clear and detailed, the information extensive, and the photographs simply gorgeous. Clearly the author is passionate about her subject!

Did not cover enough of the premier Philadelphia Chippendale pieces.
Many mundane 18th Century pieces were covered while many of the premier Philadelphia Chippendale pieces were not. The print was entirely too small - for me.

As one who is an Alien to American Colonial furniture history and especially Philadelphia furniture my interest changed in 2013 when I was lucky to physically examine a piece found in Britain. This start the very long journey of research and Alexandra Kirtly & PMA book I just wish was available to me at the start digging.Philadelphia furniture of mid 18thC is very complex even for specialist experts but very little is published that is transparent and helps joins the dots over others who have agenda. Kirtly has put paper to article and article to paper more for the historians than those who want to make copies but I do have to agree in wanting more detail of the furniture mechanics after a single photo of the facade.Saying that it is very modern well research book which any person interested or involved in American Decorative Arts, furniture world should have on there shelf.
