Q: What is the difference between this and the $600 download directly from the Claris website?

Although I have not performed any extensive comparisons, I believe these are the same product. I purchased this version to run a customized data base application built with Filemaker and it has performed flawlessly.

Q: If this is not sold by Claris, how are you giving a unique product key, instead of just giving everyone the same product key?

This is kept track of by the vendor. The software communicates "back home" when you try to install.
