purchase after a lot of research
not sure if i would actually like this, as there are so many rip offs. the clamp works well, the knife uses a slide motion which cuts clean, real clean in fact.i'm using this for a 3 knife cut on a text booklet i wrote on mapping domestic property which i plan to upload on here as soon as the copy right office finishes their magic.but to the cutter. it is a heavy sucker. make sure you have a place to put it so you don't have to move it often.. it is designed to last for years with replaceable blade, cutting surface that can be turned 4 times (which is industry standard) and does use a true bypass cut so it leave crisp machine quality edges.for small cottage printing, this is a must have, cost, quality and results are amazing.

impressed
I have been using a Martin-Yale for years, but after it broke down once again in the middle of a time sensitive project, I decided it was time to buy a spare. Not terribly confident in off brands, but the difference in price for a new Martin-Yale made me decide to try it. I liked the look of this one, and when it arrived I was very pleasantly surprised. It is a heavy built cutter. Everything worked flawlessly out of the box. It is easy to operate, and I've been cutting about 150 sheets per blade swing. I don't know how well it will last, but it has already made itself worth the investment.

Just do it!
Where have you been all my life? My only regret is that I didn't buy this guillotine years ago. Excelkent value, excellent quality, easy to use, excellent results. We host a large raffle and each year it takes us hours to accurately cut thousands of tickets using a standard paper cutter. This year we used our new guillotine and the job was done in less than 10 minutes! I was pleasantly pleasantly surprised at how easy this was to use and even more impressed by the precision of the cut. Highly recommend!!!

A clean cut through a whole stack of paper!
The basic design of the Texalan is well thought out. The whole unit is covered with a durable, high-gloss coating with printed grids of both US and European paper sizing in a light color against a dark background (it's gorgeous). The safety features are excellent. It's light enough that I can move it if necessary, but heavy enough to stay put when in use. Some things to consider: The high gloss finish creates reflections between the horizontal and vertical surfaces. Consider this when setting up your lighting. (I think it would help if the imperial and metric grids were different colors, since they are positioned very close to each other.) The sliding arm that positions the paper parallel to the blade is a bit wobbly. Merely tightening the knob that holds it in place is not enough; to prevent a crooked cut, the free end of the guide has to be held down firmly while tightening the knob. Two rulers imprinted on the plate make it easy to line up the arm. Over all, I'm glad I bought it--it's built to last!

Seems legit for cannibalistic book digitization
I’m new to this whole guillotine cutter thing, but I wanted to digitize some books that I could not find electronic versions of (intact book scanners are unfortunately subpar unless you want to pay thousands) so off I went to buy this monster guillotine cutter! Anyway, first couple of books went perfectly using this with my Fujitsu ScanSnap. I bought an extra blade in case it stops being made before I need to sharpen it.

Choose another cutter
If you’re thinking of purchasing a paper cutter, look elsewhere. First of all, I first opened the machine there we’re no instructions on how to set up the machine. It took me 40 mins to figure out how to put the paper clamp handle thing on the right way (it is backwards), how to unlock the actual cutter lever, etc. I also had to wipe down the machine because it was covered in grease. Even after I cleaned there was grease on the blade itself which left my papers with a nasty grease streak even after wiping the blade multiple times. Not only was the set up and grease an issue, but the machine itself is difficult to get accurate cuts on thick stacks of paper. Even after measuring carefully, lining up and inspecting exactly where the blade will cut, it’s a hit or miss. Some pages are off by 0.25” or so.In addition and probably a very annoying issue that I learned the hard way is that if you place your stack of paper right up again the metal bar/ruler, clamp down, and cut you will notice that your paper with pinch at the top (see pictures). As a result, I figured out that I need to move my paper down a bit and clamp it so that it doesn’t pinch at the top. This is a big issue is that the cut may not be perfectly straight. The only positive it that it cut through a lot of paper very nicely, 2 stars for that reason.

Heavy Duty
UPDATE: used very little over 4 months and already issues. Contacted customer service and they said that we need to change the red piece or the blade. But we barely even use it. It cuts through all the way until the last few pieces on the bottom and has bumpy edges that is not cut through cleanly.***Use this to cut 1/4" - 1/2" thick stack of index paper and it cuts so smoothly. If you tighten the clamp, it will not move and cuts accurately. I cut it using crop marks so I'm not sure if it cuts accurately according to the measurements on their ruler. Also aligning it is a bit off but you get used to how much extra space you need to place it so the knife cuts at the correct spot. It's also better for thicker stack of papers and it really cuts like butter like another person said. It feels a bit awkward cutting a couple sheets at a time, leaving you wondering if you made the cut fully, but it still works. Bought this because it has a blade replacement option. Sadly they got a poor review because someone didn't read instructions to push the safety lever down before cutting. It does work nicely. It is very heavy and quality made. The blade is not under the lever as other cutters have. The lever is only for the handle and the blade is parallel to the surface. It seems more safer that way as well. Worth the price.
