Incredible value, fun to play, and packed with extras
I needed a travel instrument, and started browsing through Amazon for something, and this stood out straight away. I ordered it not expecting too much. When it arrived (really well boxed btw) and I unpacked it I was astonished at the quality of everything I was unpacking. The gig bag is thick, and rugged, it should really protect it. The other extras, cappo, strap, and picks, are all of great quality, and will be used.I expected the quality to be ok, but nothing more, boy was I surprised! The build quality and components are really good, the tuners don’t slip over night, every joint is perfectly straight and flush to its partner. Inside there is good looking bracing to the front and back. The top is solid mahogany, the sides and back are laminate, this is a good feature in a travel instrument, as it will not be adversely affected by changes in atmosphere, and laminate is very resistant to bumps and bangs. The fretboard is a “technical wood” this usually means wood fibres pressed in a resin, but whatever it is, it feels great under my fingers. The final quality touch is the radius on the rear of the ukulele, it should help with the punch of the sound.Playing, it sounds as good as instruments I have that were four or five times the cost of this one!The frets are well shaped and perfectly finished which makes playing even easier.I has a good tone, bright and ringing, some are a darker, more bass tone, but this one sings, allowing each note to ring when fingerpicking, and chords to form beautiful harmonics. All in all, superb value, and great to play.I think I will try the Soprano next!

Good instrument - Great price
Horse Baritone UkuleleThe instrument was well packed and everything was present. It was good to find the zip is long enough to allow the padded case to open flat, which makes getting the ukulele in and out much easier.I was surprised to see an Allen key in the bottom of the case until I spotted that there was a truss rod accessible from the sound hole. Looking inside showed that the braces were set into the linings and the soundboard has cross bracing like a Martin guitar, both positive signs of the thought that went into the design.Everything looked neat and there were no glue drips or gaps visible inside.Outside all the joints were tight and smooth, with a nice satin finish which I prefer to gloss. The strings looked a bit skinny until I realised that it was tuned GCEA, with a high G.Once tuned it played well but sounded like it had a lot more to give.I know some players prefer to have the same tuning as the smaller ukuleles but the traditional tuning for a Baritone is DGBE, like the 4 thinnest strings on a guitar. As there was a truss rod I decided to fit some medium weight DGBE strings. These made a huge difference to the instrument, giving more projection and resonance, a better range and good sustain. After a week the neck is still straight so there has been no need to adjust the truss rod.In summary - the instrument is well made, plays well and comes with a good case and some useful extras. It is amazing value for the price. The only things I could criticise are personal choices like the strings and a strap that looks a bit wide for the instrument. That isn’t enough for me to mark it down from 5 stars.Get one before the price goes up to a level that reflects the quality.Put some DGBE strings on it and have fun!

Good value
I have only had this Horse Baritone ukulele for a few days, but here are my thoughts and findings so far. I have some musical knowledge and, for the price, this is a good little instrument. There are a few small negatives, but first the plus points. Its design is simple but attractive, the wood is pleasing to look at, the finish is good all over, and it came with no dents, scratches, or other marks. There is a nice bright strap with it. It possibly needn't be as wide as it is as the instrument is not big or heavy, but I like it fine. It's easy to attach and adjust. It's comfortable in use and doesn't get in the way of your hands. The notes are true and produce good octaves at the 12th fret. The tone is really nice. The action height can be adjusted via a nut inside the base of the neck using the metal tool provided. The carry bag is padded for protection and pleasing to look at. The front pocket contains an easy to apply capo, should you need it, a couple of plectrums, spare nylon strings. The gear mechanisms for tuning the strings seem to be if reasonable quality and are neatly mounted. There was a small dessicant pack inside the body, so watch out for dropping that if you have pets or small children. On the negative side, this is not strung as a baritone DGBE, but as the other ukes of the family GCEA. I was prepared for this as I had read it in other reviews. I thought it may have been rectified but, if it turned out that it hadn't been, I was prepared to buy new strings for it as it would probably have low quality strings fitted, which don't give the best sound possible It came with spare strings, which might be baritone ones but aren’t labelled. I bought new higher quality strings anyway. The D and G are wound with metal. Right out of the box I was able to play as BD and E were tunable on the fitted strings and I tuned the other one to D an octave up from where it should be. It was OK to get started but new strings came the next day and I fitted them following a YouTube 'how to' video. The sound is much nicer with the new strings and with a plectrum is quite loud ( I don't usually use one).I have previously played guitar but my fingers don't cope with left hand. I hadn't played for years. Then I read of someone buying this for the same reason. There's couple of chords tried so far that are still a little tricky for me, but most of them are fine, and this was a great way to enjoy playing again. There are lots of free resources and videos on the Internet, and it's easy to make pleasing music very quickly. It's also less cumbersome to transport than a guitar.I am pleased with this purchase, so I hope it continues to impress as time goes on.

It doesn't stay in tune, change strings and it's beautiful!!
This is a beautiful Ukulele no doubt and when she's tunwd she can sound beautiful, after you change the strings. The strings that it comes with are awful. The major problem is that the strings never settled. It would go out of tune quickly, it would sound bad. It is beautiful but sounds different to other concert ukuleles in more of a baritone way.The actual ukulele itself is beautiful and it looks gorgeous. The strings are the biggest issue and staying in tune!

A thoroughbred that is definitely worth the gamble!
The media could not be loaded. I was provided this ukulele for review, but would have happily paid the advertised price to have it! It’s an excellent ukulele for a beginner just starting out (like me!), and I think it would bring joy to a more experienced player as well. The mahogany top, sides, and back have a nice grain pattern of alternating light and dark areas and the satin stain has a rich honey-amber glow that is especially beautiful on the side grain. I tried to It show off as much as I could in the photos and videos, but it’s even more beautiful in person.Sound is good. No buzzing, good sustain, nice and bright tone from the D’addario strings.I was impressed with the gig bag: nice construction, good zippers, roomy front pocket, good padding. The logo on the bag (also repeated on the headstock) looks nice as well.I was not as impressed with the included accessories: 2” wide strap (too wide in my opinion), guitar sized capo, and no tuner. Extra strings were included, so that’s a nice thing. I’d much rather have had a tuner than the capo.Overall, a great value and a very nice instrument. If this is your 2nd (or more) instrument, you likely have a tuner and won’t miss it not being included. If you’re a new player - or purchasing as a gift - make sure to get a tuner as well so you’re ready to go when you get the ukulele!

Remarkable Value and Fun To Have Around
I bought this as an adjunct to the soprano I got for my young daughter. I thought it would be easier to show her stuff if I was holding one also. Tenor means a longer neck and scale length which means no cramming fingers, but it's a real mystery to me as to why they call it a Tenor when it is tuned to the exact same pitch as the Soprano. In all other instrument series there is a big difference in the sonic range between Soprano, Alto , Tenor and Baritone. Someone said , in my research, that it's a historical artifact in that Tenors used to be tuned lower. A minor problem arises when you tune these strings the same pitch as a soprano in that the "action" ie strings are stiffer and for the beginner , they may experience sore fingers for the first 30 hours or so of playing. If you are buying for a kid with small hands, the soprano is probably a better choice for that issue. The instrument is remarkably well made for the price. The bridge is flat and secure to the body. The neck was straight and I only had string buzz above the 7th fret on the A string. It was barely noticeable and I don't think anyone is heading to Carnegie anytime soon with one of these. The intonation is also impressive for a tiny instrument. It's just a very convenient, sufficiently rugged and decent quality musical instrument that I hope is within everyone's budget.
