Highly recommend this top-tier bushcraft gear.
This Fiskars 8 lb. Splitting Maul is an absolute beast! The 36" shock-absorbing handle makes splitting wood surprisingly comfortable, even for tough hardwood. The forged steel blade is incredibly sharp and durable, making quick work of logs for campfires. It's truly a pleasure to use and feels incredibly well-balanced. If you need a reliable and effective wood splitter, this is it!

Love this Maul
I split several cords of wood every year. I only split with axes and mauls and I only heat with wood so needless to say I know my way around this type of equipment. I have several axes including the entire Fiskars line up of axes and mauls and all of the Fiskars axes are exceptional. Not much more I can add on top of the glowing reviews here but a few comments on which axes you should buy and safety below. The Fiskars Iso Core maul is best in class. Not only does it split large rounds like nothing else it is also very easy to swing. The design makes it feel lighter than other mauls on the market. In addition, the handle transfers all energy into the strike. The low shock handle takes advantage of the principle of conservation of energy. When you strike items any vibration is wasted energy. When this maul hits a stubborn round it lands like a thud and the handle is nearly vibration and shock free. That's easier on your body and means the hit passes the most energy into the wood.My only advice is that this maul is for people with average or higher strength and experience. This maul has the potential to hurt you if you pass through a round and aren't wearing the proper boots or have the proper swing/stance. My expert advice is that if you are new to chopping wood pick up three Fiskars axes, the small splitting/chopping axe, the X27 axe and the Iso Core maul. The reason three axes are good is because you need a small axe to clean up branches on firewood and do random chopping and yard work. Also nice for camping. The Fiskars X27 is the best splitting axe for people with some experience, strength and form, basically serious firewood users. No axe swings like the X27. The Iso Core maul is for those who chop their own rounds or for stubborn pieces. It is also a must have. The best part about having a few axes and mauls is that with some experience you can go faster than a wood splitter. Happy splitting!

High quality tool. Better than expected!
This is the pick, NOT the splitting maul, as in many of the other reviews..This is a heavy, sturdy tool. Well balanced with good weight on pick for heavy digging and chopping. Very strong handle. Good for prying out roots or rocks. The steel seems very high quality and hard. I’ve hit a few rocks and concrete. The rocks and concrete lost. Handle is well shaped for gripping.

solid construction and good value
This is a solid upgrade for the Fiskars 36 inch X27 Super Splitting Axe that i have been using for years. It has quite a bit more heft to it so does wear your out quicker but has much more force driving into the the wood and a broader head it you are hitting a splitting awl with it. I still like the x27 but use this when I have larger rounds, need to use it as a sledge hammer. Construction and durability appears to be similar quality to the X27 I have and I feel this offers an excellent value over all and would recommend it to anyone looking for a general purpose wood splitting maul.

Sturdy and effective - still looks brand new
I chop different kinds of wood for our backyard chiminea - it used to be a chore, now it's fun! This splitting axe / maul is incredibly sturdy and the handle (IsoCore Shock Control System) truly lessens the impact of every strike. Even though this axe is heavier than my others, I can use it for longer. Awesome durability gives me confidence it'll last for years to come.

Absolutely the right tool for tough roots
Fiskars products are generally reliable but this tool (also called a mattock) is impressive for ease of use, comfortable grip, solid weight (putting some heft into each swing ) and quality for a reasonable price. It breaks up hard ground, chops through tough roots and halves the time and effort involved in changing out planting beds. You may not need it often but when you do, it efficiently and absolutely gets the job done and done well. I would have given it 5 stars but have owned it for too brief a period to say if it is durable.

Best splitting maul I own!
My son and I have a small-time roadside firewood stand so we split a fair amount of wood. Mostly we use a hydraulic splitter, but sometimes you need a maul so if you’re looking stop now and buy this one. It’s pretty heavy, which is both a pro and a con. It’s nice to have a smaller splitter for smaller stuff, but if I could only have one it would be this one. The extra weight is nice when tackling tough wood. The handle is surprisingly well balanced and comfortable. I prefer it to my wood handles, which I was not expecting. The orange part is very grippy and handle profile is perfect in my opinion. Nice balance too considering the weight of the head on this. The head profile works great on tough pieces and came sharp enough for a maul. Fair price for what you get especially compared to other options out there. Item arrived later than anticipated but no big deal to me. Wouldn’t change a thing and highly recommend this splitting maul.
