I found holding for about 30 seconds is most beneficial. Longer.... diminishing returns. If you want to increase your range, hold 30 seconds then relax a few degrees than increase a few clicks past your previous max hold. Repeat.

How does the increment work? Is it by degree, or in larger units?

It isn't a ratchet function, it is geared, so basically you can go by degree if you like (though there is no way to measure such a small increment accurately). In practice, you just turn the wheel a little at a time. I go by 1/4 turns, but my son goes by 1/16-1/8 turns to nudge a little farther. My 1/4 turns with my legs at ~140 degrees is probably pushing them out another 1 degree or so.

Can you extend it beyond 180 degrees?

Yes, you can. It will allow you to crank it all the way so that your legs are behind you - 360 degrees

What is the weight limit for a perdin to use it?

I'm thinking the 27 is 270lbs, the 30 is 300lbs, but that's just a guess. :)
