Protects carpet from indentations and wear
03-02-23: This is my 2nd purchase of this item. The first one finally needed to be replaced after 13 years of heavy use. I use a flat desk mat on top of this and am able to roll about quite easily.

Pimp your office
This mat looks incredible and really lends a classy feel to my workstation. The typical vinyl office mats are so blah and have nasty formaldehyde emissions too. This bamboo mat is safe to use and I don't feel concerned to have babies crawling around on it. The price tag was daunting but I bit the bullet and it was worth it.I got this type of mat because it was rated for thicker carpet. I actually bought a more lightweight version of the mat, but I felt like it was already starting to crack on my thick carpet. This heavier 3 panel mat feels much more sturdy and I hope it will stand up to many years of use. Time will tell.UPDATE:After 1 year of using this, I can say that it has held together well and makes my office look great. I still love it, so I bought a second one for my other desk. Unfortunately, the new one I got is significantly thinner than my first one. The first one I got is very solid and substantial. The second one, while it looks nice, is a thinner and feels a bit flimsy. One of the panels actually snapped in half while I was lifting it out of the box. Amazon sent me a replacement. The replacement has not broken (yet... knock on wood, er, bamboo). However I can tell that it is thinner and by just walking on top of it I can feel that it is less solid than my first one.So I reduced my rating by 1 star since apparently, "they don't make them like they used to". Hopefully they will go back to making these mats thicker and more sturdy. I'm still loving my first one, but now I am a little dubious that my second one will last without breaking.

Just what I needed!
We recently remodeled our home including wonderful new carpet. With the new carpet, my desk chair just wouldn't roll at all making any movement at my desk a pain. Since my carpet is deep and very dense with a nice pad the chair wheels just sank and grabbed. I use my home office to meet clients and didn't want the old clear chair mats to ruin the look of my office space so opted for the bamboo chair mat instead. After reading up on the mats I decided to go with the more expensive, thicker mat since my carpet is actually thicker than 3/4" carpet/pad depth recommended in the chair mat description. The best price I found was on Amazon as usual and free shipping with my prime account made it even more attractive for such a large & weighty item. I was concerned about the wood finish since these mats don't come in oak, but the natural finish is not as light as I feared and is a good blend with my oak furniture. I LOVE THIS MAT! I can now roll into my desk easily and/or move back to pull out my keyboard or access my printer in the side cabinet. The mat is very stable, doesn't move around, and looks great. My husband also has an office set-up and was having the same trouble I was. He wanted a smaller mat so decided to take a chance with the small & thinner roll-up one. His is also working well, but you can feel movement under your feet from one slat to the other because of the thick 'cushion' of carpet and pad underneath. The lip on my larger chair mat fits my desk knee space perfectly, but would not have fit in the space on my husbands older desk. The lip on his smaller mat was the same size as mine, but he had only to saw off one slat to make his fit under his desk. It was an easy and tidy modification that you don't notice at all - definitely a plus reason for a smaller mat for him. He loves his too!

Relief for the carpet under wheeled desk chairs...
...not totally sure about the accuracy of product descriptions (more on that later).I purchased two of these (36"x48" and 52"x48") for desk chairs used on two different carpet types (Berber wall-to-wall and a large medium-pile (~5/8") area rug for two similar 5-wheeled rolling office chairs. In both use cases, these really helped when adjusting the chair position or moving from the desk to other furnishings on the side.Too soon to tell about the long-term durability, but out of the box they work great, and their appearance is far superior to plastic alternatives.Note about the product description: a 36"x48" mat with a lip available is indicated as an option for this product. Twice I ordered it and once went through the exchange process...and in both cases, the unlipped mat arrived. I'm not sure if this is a lack of attention to detail at the fulfillment center, or if there simply isn't really a lipped offering available. Just be prepared if you have your heart set on one with a lip. Accurate product descriptions are crucial for online shopping; this lapse cost this item a star (but I have no issues with its on site performance to date).

My chair rolls...
This mat came in aI have had one of Office _______'s heavy duty plastic chair mats in my home office for 7+ years. Overall, it worked pretty well. But between the carpet, padding, and roughly 3/8" thick chair mat, I always got that quicksand-like feeling when moving my chair around on it. Within seconds, I have come to realize that this Anji Mountain Bamboo Chairmat is a different experience altogether, but I suppose that I am skipping ahead. The Anji Mountain Bamboo Chairmat is double packaged with an inner layer of Styrofoam (about 1/2") & outer cardboard box. This blows away packaging that I have seen on other chairmats. There is a foam rubber type backing on the mat which seems to do a pretty decent job at minimizing the chances that the chairmat will move around on the floor. True to their advertising, the mat is in the realm of 12mm (or ~1/2") thick. There was significant drag when moving the chair around on the old mat. I got a renewed sense of just how sluggish the old mat was once I sat on the new chairmat. It is literally like the chair is on a hardwood floor. I have found that I keep pushing my chair off of the back of the mat each time that I get up. I will definitely have to retrain my muscle memory now.
