This book has been a lifesaver. I am a graduate student and I find myself reaching for this book very often. We all take tons of stats courses, but we end up losing what we don't use. This book is the perfect refresher. It includes example outputs and explains exactly how to read them. It also outlines the assumptions of specific tests in a clear and easy-to-understand format.Even better, the companion site comes with practice data sets. This makes life much easier when you are trying to practice certain statistical analyses and need to double check your work. I highly recommend this book as a supplement. It is worth every penny.

Really thoughtful and useful book, particularly for social scientists who struggle with statistical analysis or are new to the discipline. Lays out baseline parameters for selecting appropriate analysis based upon clear examples. Wish I had this book two years ago!!

This is a very good and useful resource for students and others using SPSS. Necessarily, it concentrates on the SPSS version current at the time it was published. It would be useful to those unable to bet the most current version to have footnotes or end notes that called attention to changes and/or ways to adapt to using other versions. Also, there are times that there are simple syntax methods that are actually easier to use than menus. Nevertheless, this book is an invaluable resource to help those who use software like SPSS only occasionally, or as a refresher to those once skilled who are not faced with newer versions. SPSS is a powerful tool for data management and statistical analysis, and this user-friendly book makes it very accessible.

I am in grad school and using SPSS for the first time since I was a sophomore in undergrad (7 years ago!) This book has been a life saver. Very handy and worth the money!

I took an advanced statistics course after forgetting quite a bit from the basic statistics course I had taken several years ago. This book was an absolute LIFE-SAVER!!! Pallant's explanations are quite easy to understand. She explains the statistical test, how/when it should be used, the steps required when using the SPSS program in order to conduct the statistical analysis, and how to interpret results. I couldn't have gotten through the class without it!!

The book is very well written. Author provides a comprehensive summary of statistical reporting for each test, which is of great help in corporate report preparation and independent data analysis in SPSS.

The instructions are clear and easy to follow. Thankfully, how to interpret the results are also clearly given. I was so grateful to have found this book and credit it with getting through the preliminary statistics needed for my research PhD study.

Good overall, but no advanced information on syntax or special situations or designs. Screenshots and interpretations are helpful. Just don't expect anything too detailed. Would probably be helpful for MA students and beginning PhDs. As a doctoral candidate, it didn't quite include everything I had hoped. Still, useful and it'll stay on my bookshelf to be pulled out now & again when I'm working with unfamiliar but basic designs or writing up results. Does a nice job including assumptions for the model, how to check them, and how to interpret them--without too much jargon :)

CD was missing

Should be called "Survive Data analysis - Thrive on SPSS". I recently used chapter 15 on factor analysis which took me through the main steps in principal components analysis. By breaking it down, providing step-by step instructions, and an example complete with output, followed by an interpretation and discussion of the results, the author helped me to grasp the key concepts and many underlying rules. Less is more: providing scaffolded instruction like this allows one to be ready to go into greater depth with items such as parallel analysis. Need help with this? Not only does Pallant make specific reference to some factor analysis "heavyweight" authors, she provides an extensive resource list at the end of the chapter. This could easily be the text for an introductory statistics course. So glad I ordered just in time for preliminary analysis for my dissertation. Hint: get the spiral bound version.

Diese Buch hat mir schon sehr geholfen durch mein Studium zu kommen! Alle Rechenoperationen sind ausführlich und übersichtlich erklärt. Der Aufbau ist sehr verständlich und ich kann dieses Buch ohne Bedenken weiterempfeheln.

I was recommended by my dissertation supervisor to buy this book, as I was doing a quantitative research. I must say this book helped me through my dissertation, to understand and answer every question I had. It even has a table that told me which kind of analysis Id be doing. I recommended it to all my others friends who had questions. They all agreeed with me and have bought it too. This is coming from a uni student who hadnt bought a single book throughout the three years apart from this one.I just wished it was a proper hardcover book than a spiral binder type. If im not careful the pages will eventually start falling off.
