Zero Instructions and funny color codes.
Price is about the strongest selling point for this item. It has about zero instructions, funny color codes, and not all the mounting hardware. The little "instruction" sheet that comes with this is just that, little. There's three tiny images on it and not much else. There's no mention of where the gasket goes, no mention of where the little white pads go, and no mention of how to connect all the wires to the radio. And I never did find the "Support Shelf for Radio in Rear of Housing." There's also some kind of black plastic plate that looks like a place to mount a radio but, of course, there was nothing on the instructions about it.Most everywhere, including the radio that you'll stuff into this, probably has a black wire as ground. Not this unit. Mine came with a light blue wire marked as ground and the black wire marked for the speakers. The only mounting hardware included is the knobs that hold the housing into the bracket, screws for the faceplate onto the housing, and some little screws for mounting brackets that don't come with the unit. Yes, it's pretty standard not to include mounting hardware, the stuff that actually holds it to the boat, but ads usually say "mounting hardware sold separately." Not "stainless steel mounting hardware." Just an oh-by-the-way, the built in nuts that hold the enclosure to the bracket are actually brass, with what appears to be stainless steal screws in the knurled knobs. Can you say, "dissimilar metal corrosion?" Granted, it won't be much but it will be there. After all that, this is what I did:I mounted a Kenwood KMR330, with only the front speakers planned for hook up at this time, into this unit. The Kenwood uses a wiring harness with plug that makes it fairly easy to connect all the wires. I soldered all connections and used liquid tape over all connections and on the bare wires ends left exposed on the wires I'm not using at this time. That includes the built in wires on this enclosure. They're stripped back about a quarter inch and the wires are left exposed. I didn't want a bare wire connection, that runs inside and out, left floating around my radio. Then I used several zip-ties (not included) to bundle the wires together and just neaten things up a bit, and also to hold the unused wires together so I could store them in the very back of the enclosure. There's plenty of room for the extra wires though the antenna wire is a bit stiff and didn't want to cooperate when I slid the radio in. The pre-amp out RCA plugs do not have any kind of covers or storage places so plan on doing something with them if you don't use them right away.I then took all the extra wires on the back of the enclosure, cut off the bare wires, insulated and waterproofed them, and bundled them together with another zip tie and was able to get them to curl together enough that they'll hide in the little cutout area on the back of the enclosure. I didn't want to cut them off because I might end up using them after all. And, there's no way to temporarily remove the wires you're not using right away.Yes, I'd buy this unit again, just on the price point and it looks pretty cool, but I was really disappointed in the door and gasket seal. Once the stick-on gasket is stuck on the inside of the door, I guess that's where it goes- no instructions, the door wouldn't close and latch without using a bit of force, or striking it with the heal of my hand. Now, I understand that the seal is new and it might take a bit to "settle" in but I'd think just a bit more lip on the latch would make a huge difference. And, two of the faceplate mounting screws had a very hard time going back in. And yes, I know how to replace screws in plastic without stripping them out, been working electronics over 30 years.Overall, for the price, this in not a bad unit but three things would make this a huge winner: Actual instructions, a door that closes and latches easily with the gasket in place, and let's make the ground wire black like the rest of the world.

Not bad, if you have a little ingenuity! Priced right.
I can't for the life of me figure how anyone would need a "waterproof" stereo housing to mount in a boat is beyond me. I suppose it would be helpful if you plan on sinking your boat and you are concerned about getting the stereo unit wet - but that's hardly realistic. Yet, it appears this was Pyle's intent when they designed it. How you mount this, and how you use it will depend on how well designed or how well made you think it is.Some have complained the instructions don't tell yo how to use the wiring. That's not really a problem since the color coding is stamped on the case, although it's really hard to see. In my case, I didn't utilize it anyway. There are no real instructions - but instructions for something like this aren't really needed, especially since there are so many different ways to use it.Really what I needed was a housing with a cover to keep splashed water or rain out, and this fits the bill nicely. I had to alter it to fit my needs slightly though. I had more wires to my stereo than what is accounted for in the unit, so I just removed the wiring harness from the unit and passed my existing wiring through it. There's not enough room behind the stereo to pack all that wiring in anyway. It's really a poor design in that respect. It just doesn't work. Also, in order to get the stereo to fit in there tightly, I had to pack it around the sides to make sure it doesn't move around in there. The description says there's a "shelf" in the rear of the housing, but there is no "shelf". In fact there's nothing in there at all to secure the stereo so it doesn't move around. The design in that respect is a little sloppy, in my opinion.Others have complained the plastic mount is flimsy. No, not really. I would suspect that some people aren't utilizing all the screw holes that are provided in order to mount it solidly. You don't really need to use all of them, but I used 6 and that was plenty. It's plenty sturdy.Overall the unit is well made - with two exceptions. First, the "latch" that is molded into the plastic and designed to keep the lid closed tight was way too tight. I struggled to get it opened after it snapped closed very tightly. I had to file down the plastic with a moto tool and it works fine now. I shouldn't have had to do this at all. A spring loaded cover with a snap closure would have been a much better design. 2nd, The plastic "hinges" for the lid are too thin. I dropped it and it broke. Fortunately, the break was clean and I was able to super glue it together. I doubt it will last though. The gimble housing mount is convenient but not without shortcomings. It's a little too wide for the housing making it difficult to tighten correctly. Further, afraid to tighten it too tightly, I had to add two friction washers to keep the housing from moving up and down too easily (ie bouncing up and down while the boat is underway.). You can mount either above or below a shelf, with the lid opening up or down. The only downside in my opinion of having the lid open upward is the way the hinge pin is designed to work with friction, I suspect it will wear out quickly and no longer hold the lid in the "up" position. If that happens, I'll have to take it all apart again and reverse it.I gave it 3 stars because it accomplished my goal but I had to do too much work to get it to accomplish my needs. Also, the price was right. 26 bucks (including prime shipping) wasn't bad at all, and I got it from Amazon in two days. I didn't give it 4 or 5 stars because although materials wise it isn't badly constructed, the people who designed this thing probably never owned a boat.

Hey it Works, just treat it right, its made in china<<< weak face cover hinge buyer beware
updating my review for this item and it looses one star, as has been mentioned the cover on this unit is crap, after a few days in the heat it broke off on the right side hinge, its all abs of some sort there is no wire retainer of any kind in there so after opening and closing less that 50 times i lifted it up and noticed it was hanging off that left side... everything else is the same, going forward i would look into a stronger unit if you need your stereo to be sealed from the elements, me personally i can live without it on my setup... i just received my case, installed the pyle PLMR88W marine radio inside. Many reviews have mentioned several things i would like to address, in my box i received all the hardware that i was supposed to however that instruction sheet is lacking- to say the least... if you look at the rear of the case where the wires exit the unit you will notice embossed wording which details what wire is what- please know that i installed a same brand din radio inside this and the wire colors were very different, All of them... nonetheless it can be done with patience and good light, youll need the right angle to see the markings. Then there is that strange plastic piece that is left over from manufacturing i presume i could see no possible use for it except as maybe a template if you wanted to install the entire box into your dash or wall or whatever, there is a foam strip that i used to line the inside of the smoke cover where it meets the dropbox, if you do this take care to align it properly so that the neoprene gasket surrounding the chassis can still make proper contact for proper sealing. Small white foam circles presumably go on the mounting arm but your guess which side is as good as mine. the lid does seems a bit tender but i realize i paid a good price so i will treat it accordingly, read carefully when opening and closing it. the good thing is the stereo i installed has remote control, so i wont be opening and closing it so much, i will just be sure to not loose the remote as i have for so many radios in the past. you do get what you payed for and in this deal you do get a little more for less money imo just treat it right, its made in china.

Does not have enough wire connections...
The unit is nice overall...but has some issues. I have a pyle marine radio. I bought this because I wanted to move it from the cuddy cabin to the console. My radio has a wire for remote on for my amp and a constant hot wire for the memory. The case does not include these wires. I had to drill holes and seal them to make the connections. The other wires were all there. Next...it has seals, but they don't stay in place. I had to add sealant so that they stayed in place. Lastly...the thumb screws really don't have the best holding power. Now to see how long it lasts in the sun...****UPDATE: the door broke in less than a month. Tiny plastic pin that breaks. Door is useless now. Dropping my rating.
