UPDATE May 2023: Going into 2d summer hot weather in TX. Hat worked very well last summer. Cooler head was the order of the day. [FIRST REVIEW] Looking good and protecting one topside is important for seasoned citizen. In the Texas summer one needs a suitable cover that is cool to wear in style and let's a breeze pass through. I shopped locally but only found ones for gardening/lifeguard; big straw hats. I wanted one with ventilation and lots of shade and found this brand. Be sure to double check your hat size with the seller's tips. So ordered a medium size but after wearing it indoors I found it too small. So I returned it and ordered the large size. Large was too big for me but as other reviewers noted put something inside sweat band. See photo. It fits much better now for one with an in-between hat size. While walking one does sweat a bit even with wind blowing through it. If just sitting or say fishing I don't think you would sweat as much under the hat. I have only used the rawhide chin cord once when the wind was blowing a lot. The photos were taken in bright sunshine so you can see the amount of shade one gets underneath. Happy I bought it. UPDATE Oct 2022. Just about finished (I hope) with hot Texas weather and can wear my ball cap again. During the summer I wore the hat many times and really appreciate the shade. And it seemed a bit cooler up top with the vented construction. When you sweat a lot the hat seems to get fit a bit looser even with the filler I put under the sweat band. Size does matter and the shade works best for me. BTW: if you are in a loud noise environment and want wear this hat shop for behind the head ear muffs and/or foam ear plugs to protect your hearing. I have written reviews on muffs and foam ear plugs that I have worn with the hat.

I'll start by saying I usually wear nothing but quality cowboy hats (custom felt or a Sunbody Guatemalan Palm), or ball caps. I wanted something crushable for traveling when I didn't want to risk damaging a felt or Palm, usually in a crowded family vehicle. Despite this hat coming in a shipping BAG, it was still perfectly shaped, and has retained that shape despite being thrown in the back seat, onto the floor or getting accidentally crushed by my lunch box. This hat is also a fraction of the cost of my felts and about 1/3 the price of my Sunbody, but I've had more compliments on this hat than my others. (Really, people?!?) Seriously, it is a good and nice looking hat. The ONLY "con" is the stampede string is horrid. If you need one, get a quality leather boot lace and make the cinch using bailing (or rebar) wire wrapped around a smooth shaft like a phillips screw driver shaft. Find a diameter that is of similar diameter as the boot lace doubled. Fold the top end down and the bottom end up, parallel to each other. Hard to explain but once you start working on it, you'll understand. If the cinch is too tight, go up a size in screw driver, and vice versa.I normally wear a 7 3/8 hat and the Large is just slightly snug.Well worth the price!Update 10 months in. Still LOVE this hat. I wear it non-stop unless I need to be in boots and jeans for something I need to wear a nice cowboy hat. I wear it working on several acres of mesquite and it has held up extremely well to the jagged thorns on those "demon" trees. It has been thoroughly soaked in sweat dozens of times but I have yet to wash it. It still continues to soak up the sweat keeping it out of my eyes for the most part. This hat looks nice enough that I had started wearing it to the office before the pandemic started. I probably need to get a new one once I start going back to the office.If you're looking for a nice crushable hat that is cool and holds its shape extremely well, this one's for you.

Bought this to replace my ragged out Tilley Hemp Hat. This one is just as good in my opinion. Has a nice wide brim that is stiff unlike my floppy Tilley hat, this one won't flip up over my forehead in high winds. The strap is a leather thong and is a little rough on the chin and you can't stuff it up inside the hat like the soft woven strap on my Tilley.The fit is a little smaller than my stretched out Tilley and so it rides higher up on my melon than the Tilley. I'm most sure that it will relax with use over time. The mesh on the top greatly improves air flow to keep your coconut cool on those hot summer days. I would buy another one if I had to.

This is a great hat but I was looking for something a little more lightweight for long hikes. It's not extremely heavy, but I ended up with the Sunday Afternoons Charter hat, although I almost wish I kept this one as well, especially for the breathability.Good looking hat for both men and women.

I bought this hat from the seller Florida Jean Co. The hat that I got was the wrong model, it was the 3 inch brim version instead. Florida Jean Co responded very quickly to my emails and we worked it out to have me keep the hat a discounted price since shipping it back would probably be more costly. Excellent customer service from Florida Jean Co.Now on to the hat, it was the Aussie Breezer in the 3 inch brim version, model number 5310 (the 4 inch version is 5301). I believe the hats are similar in all aspects except the brim length. As for quality it was a sturdy hat, mine arrived in a box and not folded at all. It is made of a stiff durable material, seems like it will last a long time. As far as sizing goes it was spot on for me. I wrapped a string around my head and measured the length of the string, it came out to 23 inches, so I ordered the large size. The large was a perfect fit, it was snug and didn't wiggle around but not so tight that it would hurt my head. If you like your hats a bit looser then order a size up from what you measured.Overall its a great quality hat. And also very good and quick customer service from Florida Jean Co.
