Easy Ins. and Good router
I've seen all the negative reviews for this item and I was a little concerned of this router would work for me. It turns out it does. I bought this router/modem used, when I got it I went to the at&t website for installation guide, it was as easy as pie. My internet speed is 1.5mbps and I have 1 windows vista desktop, 2 laptops one which is windows 7 and the other windows vista and I have a WII connected to the router. All my items get the internet in my house and even a couple of houses away my internet is still available. The security on this router is good with WEP. My only concern is how long it would last.

lost alot of money
Ordered this for our summer lake house,, left it in the box till we got here, took it out set it up on Sat June 18th and by Tuesday the 21st it was not working,, called the internet company we did everything we could to see if it was on their end, finally she said your modem is no good,, told her it was brand new,, she said it must be a refurbished one.. told her I was pretty sure it was not.. anyway I"m out almost $70, and had to ordered a new one throught the phone company this time.. its working fine. Really dispapointed.. all my paper work is back at home,, dont even know if it can be returned. I have never had bad luck ordering through Amazon, this is the first time. :(

It did not work but the one from the office works fine
I purchased the 2wire router/modem as "reconditioned" through Amazon and paid extra for the 3-day shipping. It arrived without the installation disk and with a photo-copy of installation instructions where some of it was not readable (bad copy). I had borrowed the same model 2wire from work and I used the installation instructions that came with that product from work to try to get it going. It would not work and the red power light which should have been green suggested serious faults. When I contacted the seller I found he was not very helpful and was cavalier and difficult to deal with. He did not replace the item after promising to do so.Now for my review of the 2wire I use at work (identical to what I bought through Amazon):I have been bringing the 2wire from work back and forth work-to-home since my home modem went bad, so I now have a fair amount of experience with the item on both work and home computers. I have had it for a long time (must be over two years) at work and have had no problems. That fact is what led me to order the item from Amazon. The fact that I can bring it home and back to work almost daily attests to the fact that it is pretty rugged: not easily damaged by minor jars and bumps. When plugged in it just takes a couple of minutes before it is functional. My office assistant has brought in her lap-top and used the modem in the wireless mode without problems, though never from very far from the 2wire.

Importance of surge protectors
I had this modem for about 9 months and never seem to have any problems with it. The wifi and speed have been as advertised. I am surprised to see so many negative reviews. The problems may be due to the fact that people just don't know how to install and setup one of these modems. AT&T customer service and tech support, on the other hand, is laughable. You have to be lucky to talk with someone who knows a little bit about what is going on in order to get your tech problem resolved the first time. If your problem was not solved, I suggest hanging up and calling ATT again. You should see a good speed when you have your modem installed and setup correctly. After all, having a fast DSL service from ATT is what you are paying for and so you should get.Lastly, I wanted to say something about the importance of surge protectors (or even better, UPS) devices. I believe anyone who has a PC at home should own one (especially if the house is older, or you live in a rural area or an area with bad weather, i.e. thunderstorms, winds, ...). Once you got a pretty good protector, then connect all and every computer equipment to it: DSL modem power cord, PC, printer, monitor, scanner, ... Everything. Next, it is important to make sure that the DSL line (phone line from the wall) is also protected. Remember to pass it through the surge protector too. Now you are protected from most problems caused by electric jolts, ups-n-downs, statics, etc. If the DSL line that the ATT technician has dropped / installed on the outside of your house is working correctly, then this should get rid of most of your down-time, reboot, crash, or dead-modem problems. Good luck.

Almost, but not quite
Bought the modem/router as used. Great price. Initially, great device. But, eventually couldn't get this item to work dependably. Returned to seller and was refunded full amount, thankfully. Went to ATT shop and bought brand new. Works perfectly. Bad luck with the used equipment. Lesson: spend a little more and get new and this modem/router works quite well. Extremely easy to set up.

2Wire 2701HG-B Wireless Router Works Great
Given that the service provider was going to charge me over $100 to get a replacement router when mine stopped working, this is well worth the cost. It was easy to set up, worked perfectly, and was exactly what I had before for 1/4 the cost. I have only had it for a short time, but even if it only lasted a year, it would be financially worth it compared to the alternatives.

Don't expect a high speed experience with a DSL modem.
Modem is alright. Takes 30-40 seconds to reconnect. User interface to manage settings is OK.If you are the kind of person that is on the internet all the time then this modem (or AT&T DSL) is not for you. If you only check email now and again and browse the internet then this would be satisfactory.
