NAGU Turning Tools, Woodworking Pen Mandrel Bundle with Mandrel Saver, 2MT

Excellent product, well made and strudy.

Fits perfectly in our Super Shop lathe. My son makes pens and it is easy to put on and off.

The Morris taper mandrel shaft is more or less one piece. The tail-stock section is good quality and holds the shaft securely. The tail-stock/quill adjustment eliminates any need for a threaded shaft and works very well. I have turned handles for five seam rippers for my sister, and had not issues. The 7mmm drill bit broke when using it on my drill press. I don't feel there were any unusual stresses applied and the drill was defective. I had to finish my work with another bit. Nevertheless, the mandrel system is worth the price.

If you've ever been told not to run with scissors in your hand, you'll understand the title.These are super sharp and well made. The little plastic box they come in is great for storage. The price was low and shipping was fast. I will buy from the seller again.

This mandrel and tailstock mandrel saver are great. I am able to adjust the pressure of the bushings to the blanks using the quill of my tailstock instead of tightening a knurled knob on the mandrel itself. This may not seem like a huge deal, but it saves me the extra step of adding enough spacing bushings to extend to the threaded portion of mandrel which helps keep me from mixing differing bushings (when I'm in a flow, I can do this pretty easily and mess up a nice pen blank). I recommend "setting" the mandrel to the headstock using a couple of bushings and your tailstock when you first install this mandrel. If you wait until you are turning your blanks, they will loosen up and spin until you re-adjust the tailstock quill pressure (at least once during turning).

The media could not be loaded. UPDATE: Ive been Turing various materials for different pen kits (and other kits) with this set up and have actually been very happy with it. I have not returned to my screw-on mandrel at all.Even though the initial review is valid, functionally I would up it to 5 stars.Original review based on initial delivery:The right side mandrel saver came delivered damaged with a sharp metal shard. Also fully deployed there is a slight wobble in the shaft. I was able to eye it and bend it "more" true, but still there.I would have returned this, but already installed it in my lathe.But (and that's a big but) for the cheap cost and I was in a hurry to try out a new jig I built, I kept it.If you are a serious turner, you should pass on this one.

I gave 4 stars in the easy to use category, due to the fact that it did not come with any instructions. As a novice woodturner I made a couple of mistakes when I first attempted turning a pen blank not realizing the mandrel could be put directly into the head and tail piece of the lathe.

Perfecto para tornear boligrafos. Mucho mejor que un mandrin normal. El eje no se curva y las piezas se agarran mucho mejor.
